Title of the Paper: Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education: The Teachers Perception on Its Implementation and Their Inclusion

in the K to 12 Curriculum

Abstract The purpose of this study was to determine the teachers perception in the implementation of Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) and their assessment on its inclusion to the K to 12 curriculum in terms of the students classroom participation and academic performance. The research design utilized in the study was descriptive survey method. Findings revealed that an overall rating of partially yes is obtained from the respondents on their perceptions in the implementation of the Mother Tongue-Based MLE curriculum which implies that the teachers had a positive perception towards the curriculum. Also, it was found out that the inclusion of the MTB-MLE in the new curriculum improves students classroom participation but not on their academic performance based on the teachers assessment. This research provides a source of information to the Department of Education, Iligan City Division regarding the teachers perception and the problems encountered in the implementation of MTB-MLE in the K to 12 curriculum such as the lack of instructional materials as revealed in the study.
