Over the past semester Ive been working with my mentor about what type project that I could

do to help our school? At the beginning of the school year, we as a staff at Iditarod Elementary are asked to be part of different types of Staff Development or School Support Groups. These groups support our school in participation to support our students in such as our STEPP Council, Staff Celebration Team, Cross Country Team, Track Team and Safety Team. At the beginning of the year I chose the STEPP Team, Track Team and Safety Team. I found that this semester I couldnt be part of the Track Team as this course was a priority. The STEPP Team and Safety Team would help me with my product developments for this course and was a better way to use my time wisely. The STEPP Team supported my SIP Project and the Safety Team supported this project. How I came up with using the Safety Team to become part of my Mentor Project was the questions from the teachers at my school towards our monthly and semester mandatory Fire, Earth Quake, Bomb and Lockdown Drills as the Intern Principal and Teacher. During the past Bomb Drill this semester, I had a few teachers ask me what we do as staff members. I would joke at first with them and tell them to run away from the Bomb! Then it came to me that we never reviewed the Emergency Drills at the beginning of the school year and that no reviews are ever given prior to any drills. So my idea of making the Emergency Flip Chart that each teacher has in position in their classroom into a power point so it can be used at the beginning of the school year as a review for tenured teachers and making sure new teachers to our procedures are covered for our school. Another point is a review prior to the drill itself. The hardest part of this project was personalizing it for our school and work towards similarities for the district policies and procedures. Each teacher now can have a copy of this power point on their computer as the hard copy flip chart is just another object hanging on the wall that I believe teachers dont look review.
