As an educational leader, on any given day, government policies affect our lives in one way or another.

How we gain knowledge and understand the trends for public policy is to follow legislative bills that effect the future of education as an educational leader. The state and federal constitutional and statutory provisions provide the framework within which school operational decision are made. Policies and practices at any level of the educational scope must be made by legal mandates. The purpose for standard six is to promote the success of my stakeholders by understanding legislative policies, social, economic, legal, and cultural trends. My artifact for standard six is evidence that covers the functions in this standard. The key functions are aligned with my artifact that promote the success of all stakeholders. Below are my artifacts that are aligned with the three major functions for Standard Six: Legislative Trend Analysis The purpose for this artifact is to demonstrate the ability to follow a bill in a legislative trend analysis. Along with three other cohort members, we followed five bills during the 2013 Alaska State Legislative session. We were to determine whether or not our bills had Legs and if we felt they would pass through legislation. Functions: A. Advocate for children, families, and caregivers B. Act to influence local, district, state, and national decisions affecting student learning C. Access, analyze, and anticipate emerging trends and initiatives in order to adapt leadership strategies. The Legal Presentation on Termination of Employment I completed this artifact in standard five, which also relates to this standard. Function: B. Act to influence local, district, state, and national decisions affecting student learning. I believe that both these artifacts show my competence of standard six and all the functions are represented.
