ASSIGNMENTS FOR LOGISTICS AND SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT STUDENTS NAME: M DEVADAS BABU / E MAIL ID: devdossb@yahoo.

com ASSIGNMENT FOR MODULE 1 Assignment: Based on SCOR model, prepare a similar model for the organization you are working in, or have previously worked in. Give a detailed table of the Plan, Source, Make and Deliver phases of the SCOR model with regard to the operations of the organization. I am working in 8 Base Repair Depot, Air Force as a Flight Commander (Indigenous procurement and Vendor Development) since 10 Mar 2007. Please find below a Logistics functional chart relevant to our depot, based on SCOR model. FLOW CHART:
PLANNING: 1. Production and Planning Wing. 2. Provisioning Review Cell. 3. Material Planning and Technology Squadron.

SOURCING: 1. Logistics Squadron. 2. Indigenization Squadron.

MAKING:

1. Main Hangar Lines.

DELIVERY: 1. Transport Squadron. 2. Receipt & Dispatch Section.

MY ORGANIZATION: Our kind of production is a bit different from the other industries. Lack of commitment and support from OEMs and change in the global geo-political scenario (Like the collapse of USSR which scattered the production facilities of military vehicles like Zil, Ural, Kraz etc.) has forced us to have our own overhauling facility for specialist vehicles and other weapon systems. So the production is mainly the reconditioning of old/vintage vehicles and also production of ground and test equipments for various systems. Given above is a SCOR model applicable to our organization. The details are as follows:1. Planning: There are three departments involved in this function.

(a) Production & Planning Wing (P&P): This wing plans in coordination with Maintenance Headquarters and other user units to plan and identify those vehicles & equipments which are beyond economical repair. The vehicles/equipments to be overhauled are then prioritized. On the basis of the inputs obtained, a production task for the ensuing five years is prepared. P&P wing works in tandem with user units and vehicles according to priority is received at overhauling base. (b) Provisioning Review Cell (PR): This cell prepares the spare requirements for the production year. It also keeps a track on all the pending import dues in.
Assignment Module 1 (contd.)

(c) Material Planning & Technology Squadron (MPTS) : Prepares the list of spares required to be used on various product lines. It also prepares Work Packages and Work Schedules. 2. Sourcing: There is a software (SAP) called Integrated Materials Management On Line System (IMMOLS) to monitor stock levels, track orders, register demands, log supplies and various other functions. Consumption details are monitored by the Stock Register Section (SRS) of the Logistics wing. Vendors can either register with logistics wing or with Indigenization squadron. Most of the stores are procured centrally at command/air headquarters level and later distributed to demanding units. Other contingent purchases are made by the Local Purchase flight of the respective units. General stores and other COTS (Commercials Off The Shelf) items are procured by the LP flight. Services and other repairs from the local market are also looked after by LP flight. Imports being unsure and very time consuming, kills all the purpose of advance planning and cost effectiveness. Here comes the importance of Indigenization. This is another agency doing a kind of procurement called indigenous procurement. Indigenization squadron finds and develops Indian substitutes for the otherwise imported spares. They develop and procure one time prototypes and commission it. Further procurement is done by conventional procurement agencies. Contract management and negotiation is done at head quarters level and at depot level either by logistics wing or by Indigenization Squadron. 3. Making: Production is looked after by what we call The Main Hangar Lines (MHL). There are different MHL for different products. E.g., FTRRS for refuelers and Fire tenders, MVRF for tractors and forklifts, SVRS for Russian vehicles etc. There are also Engine Repair Section, Component Repair Section, Carpentry section, Painting section etc. Facility management is looked after by Plant Maintenance section (PMS) and Depot welfare Section. 4. Delivery: Delivery and distribution is looked after by Receipt and Dispatch Flight. Their function includes packaging, documentation, Escorting etc. Transportation is looked after by Transport Flight (TPT Flight). They arrange for Railway bookings, hiring of civil trucks, demanding service trucks and trailers etc. Note: The MPTS, Main Hangar Lines, Indigenization Squadron and Plant Maintenance Section fall under Production & Planning Wing. Provisioning Review Cell, TPT Section, LP Flight, R& D flight Etc come under Logistics wing.

Conclusion: I believe that I have presented a model for my org that aligns with the SCOR model. Our organization has its limitations, being a military organization. It has its own tools of management and functions. I have limitations in presenting details. I believe my assignment report is in line with the actual course requirement. Thank you,
