Dear Professor Soria, I am writing at your request in response for the information related to my feasibility topic.

The following includes my problem statement, proposed feasibility question, and my brainstorming responses.

Problem Statement There isnt enough dining option here at UAA.

Feasibility Question Is it feasible build a dining center on campus?

Research Connection As the state of Alaska increases in population so will the student population at UAA. According to UAAs 2009 Campus Profile report the percentage of students ages 18-24 attending UAA has increase by 10%, the number of degree seeking students has increase by 15%, and the number of minorities attending college has increase by 4% over the ten year period from 1999-2009. The hospitality and tourism are one of the largest industries in America and especially here in Alaska. The hospitality and tourism industry currently employs 12.5 million people and that number is expected to rise to 14.4 million by 2016 according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The evidence demonstrates that the employment demands for the food services industry is expected to rise over the years. This means that there would be no problem finding workers if this new dining area is created. Also since the UAA student population has been growing steadily over the year, this means that there is potentially a market for a new dining area on campus. Brainstorming Session The problem at hand is that there are not enough dining areas on the UAA campus and as the UAA student population grows this will become a bigger issue. The food service industry is expected to grow and there will likely be no shortage of workers if a dining place were to be built. Not only do we lack in dining service areas around campus, we also lack the selection and the variety of healthy food option here on campus. My solution to the problem is to build a dining center on UAA campus. This dining center will serve the widest variety of food option on campus. According to the 2010 Dietary Guideline for Americans, daily fruit and vegetable intake is directly associated with the reduced risk of many cardiovascular and chronic diseases. In a national study base on the Food Guide Pyramid, it is approximated that 32% of students meet the recommended intake for fruit and only 1.3% meet the vegetable intake recommendation. To address this problem the new dining center will offer the best salad and fruit bar in UAA, offering all kinds of fruits and veggies to serve everyones needs. The dining center if built will offer more dining options for all student and faculty, and it will even promote a healthy lifestyle by providing nutritional information and the widest selection of healthy food options on UAA campus. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely, Dennis Yi
