COORDINATING COMMITTEE ELECTIONS 2013

To nominate yourself for the EDU Coordinating Committee: Nominations are due by 5 pm on Wednesday, July 17, 2013. Only self- nominations will be accepted. To submit your nomination, send the following information to the EDU email address: educatorsforademocraticunion@gmail.com: your name which MTA local you are currently a member of, or you retired from whether that local is a K-12 local or a higher ed local a 150 word (or less) statement that will be sent to all EDU members The election process An email including all nominees names, locals, and statements will be sent to the EDU email list on Monday, July 22nd. A link to survey monkey for anonymous voting will be included in the email. Voting will remain open until 5 pm on Friday, July 26th. An announcement of the new Coordinating Committee will be emailed the following Monday. Coordinating Committee: a standing elected body of 7 MTA members, composed of 4-5 elected MTA from K-12 locals, and 2-3 elected MTA members from higher ed locals. Members of the Coordinating Committee shall be elected as follows: The four K-12 members with the most votes will be seated, and the 2 higher ed members with the most votes will be seated. The 7th member will be the person with the next most votes either from K-12 or higher ed. Once the Coordinating Committee is elected it may appoint up to 2 additional members from among the MTA to address issues of gender and racial representation. The Coordinating Committees responsibilities include: approve and issue regular email communications to entire EDU email list, including establishing an EDU position on a pressing MTA or education policy issue;

organize and hold regular EDU meetings (statewide and/or regional), including at Wiliamstown and at the MTA Annual Meeting; organize and hold EDU public events, such as an annual conference, VP candidate forum, etc.; oversee finances of the EDU, including donations sought, monies collected, and expenses approved; coordinate work of other EDU working groupseach CC member must also serve as liaison to an EDU working group; meet monthly, either via conference calls or face-to-face meetings; publicize all meetings so that anybody can attend, and publish minutes from each meeting.
