Monday Analyzing Fractions


TLW: compare fractions using a number line, analyze a variety of representations of fractions, and describe fractions verbally and in writing.

Tuesday Comparing Fractions


TLW: analyze and compare fractions, represent comparisons in words and symbols, and will describe reasoning about comparing of fractions verbally and in writing.

Wednesday Equivalent Fractions


TLW: analyze different representations of equivalent fractions and describe equivalent fractions verbally and in writing.

Thursday Simplifying Fractions

WHOLE GROUP MINI-LESSONS

Day 1 - Whole Group


Whole Group:
TTW review how to find the measures of central tendencies by using a deck of cards and manipulatives. This strategy will also be used in the comprehension & connections portion of the lesson.

Days 2 & 3 Station Rotation


There will be four heterogeneous groups that will visit 2 stations per day after the whole group mini-lesson. Group #s are listed below:

Teacher Time: (1,2,3,4)


In the teacher station, students will explore with math manipulatives to represent the equivalencies of fractions.

Teacher Time:
In the teacher station, there will be a focus on MAP skills based on the students strengths and weaknesses in math.

Introduction of Stations/Activities:
Leadership Academy: The teacher will
meet with team leaders of each group to familiarize them of academic expectations throughout the week. During this time, the co-leaders of each group will lead their team in a review station focusing on what we learned the previous week. The activity is listed in Comprehension & Connections.

Games: (2,3,4,1)
Fraction board game students will work through various fractions to find the equivalent fractions

Tech Time:
Students will work on prepdog.com to practice math skills on their level.

Manipulatives: (3,4,1,2)
Students will work with fraction bars to compare two fractions.

Match-It Game:
Students will work to familiarize themselves with the math vocabulary in their RIT range in this game.

Comprehension & Connections:


Students will play the MEAN game with their group. Students will roll dice to find a set of five numbers. Groups will work to find the mean, median, mode, and range of the numbers rolled. A deck of cards, unit cubes, and number line can be used to find the mean, median, mode, and range of numbers.
