LESSON PLAN
English I. OBJECTIVES
After the session, the students will be able to: 1. identify examples of talk as a transaction, 2. differentiate talk as transaction from interaction and performance, and 3. perform a short skit regarding the topic.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

a. Topic - Talk as Transaction (Subject Skill Focus: Speaking) b. Materials - no materials c. References - http://www.mld.metu.edu.tr/sites/default/files/buket_tarakcioglu.pdf (for topic) d. Values - Appreciation, accessibility, attentiveness

III. PROCEDURE
a. Daily Routine - Prayer - National Anthem - Trivia for the day b. Motivation - The teacher will make them recite some tongue twisters such as Peter Piper, She Sells Seashells, How Much Wood Would a Woodchuck Chuck, and Fuzzy Wuzzy. c. Lesson Proper 1. Pre-Speaking The teacher will cite some situations wherein there is a transaction, e.g., ordering fast food or asking for directions. Afterwards, the students will be asked to tell what they think that type of

speaking is. They are expected to answer talk as a transaction. The teache r will then discuss about talk as a transaction. In relation to this, the teacher will also make clear to the students the factors in distinguishing talk as transaction from talk as interaction and talk as performance. 2. While Speaking Divide the class into 3 groups. Ask the groups to prepare a short skit showcasing talk as an interaction in front of the class. The skit shall not be longer than 5 minutes. The group representative must then explain why their presentation can be considered an example of talk as a transaction. Time for preparation will be 10 minutes. 3. Post-Speaking After the allotted preparation time given, each group will go in front to present their skit. Offending groups will be penalized with 1 point deduction per minute exceeded. d. Evaluation 1. Grading Their performances will be graded according to the following criteria: a) creativity (5 pts), b) organization and cleanliness (5 pts), c) audience impact (5 pts), and d) correct categorization of jokes (5 pts) for a total of 20 points. 2. Summation of the Discussion Ask the students to give a short summary about the lesson to formally close the discussion for the day.

IV. AGREEMENT
The students will be asked to prepare for the listening lesson for next week.
