ECE 2306 ASSIGNMENT 1.

The table shows areas within the contour lines at the site of a reservoir, obtained from a plan of scale 1:1000. Contour level (m) 60 58 56 54 52 50 48 Area (mm2) 85160 79355 70970 61835 56775 40290 16900

If the lowest draw-off level is 48 m and the maximum top-water level 60 m, estimate the full storage capacity. 2. A cross section area was measured using a fixed arm mechanical planimeter which gave readings in mm2. The initial planimeter reading was set to zero and the final reading was 7460. If the horizontal scale of the cross section was 1:200 and the vertical scale 1:100, calculate the true area represented by the cross section. 3. Derive data for setting out the kerb line shown if the radius is 14 m and TOU=90. Offsets are required at 2m intervals. (8 mks)

AI- External distance, AB- mid ordinate 4. Coordinates (E,N) of corners of a polygonal area of ground are, taken in order, as follows, in metres: A (0, 0); B (-32, 40); G (27, -19), returning to A. C (-41, 126); D (14, 200); E (80, 144); F (108, 62)

Calculate the area enclosed, and the coordinates (to the nearest metre) of the far end of a straight fence from A which just cuts the area in half.
