Down Syndrome is a genetic disorder that effects on the abnormality of chromosome so that children are born congenital of the

excess of chromosomes 21 named trisonomy 21. It can cause stressor and becomes stress if it is not handled properly and can cause to the way parents educate their children. Therefore, parents need coping strategy to handle problems that are being faced. This research is aimed at identifying coping strategy of parents to their children who suffer down syndrome at state extraordinary school 1 Jakarta. The main purpose of thje research is to identify stressor of parents to their children suffer down syndrom, identify types of coping strategy problem focus coping and emotional focus coping that are used by parents. The method of the research is qualitative descriptive and the unit analysis are parents and students with down syndrome. Samples conducted are seven (7) main participants and five (5) supporting participants by conducting homogenous sampling. Data collection depicted by interviewing open-ended and field research. Data validation is done by using triangulation of sources and techniques. Data analysis technique is done by using thematic analysis. The research finds that stressor that is faced by parents divided into 2: internal stressor (growth disorder, child development, child future hope and less knowledge) and external stressor (stigma in community, family rejection, and economical problem). In solving problems, parents use these two types of coping strategy in a different way. The writer suggests parents establish educational programs of down syndrome.
