Reflection paper on: Can a Contemporary Person Truly become an Atheist?

We live in a modern world, where technology and science have time and time again contradicted the beliefs that advocate our faith. What the bible says is a miracle or an unexplainable phenomenon, science counters and elucidates through scientific research and theories. The continuous advancement in the field of science has led many to believe religion as obsolete or a product of primitive human imagination which sought to give reason to things that were at that time unexplainable, hence considering themselves as atheists. But, as the title suggests, can a modern man truly become an atheist after belonging to a faith he once believed was real? From the article, I learned that contradiction between the teachings of religion and the discoveries of science begins when the person questioning treats them in a single field, however, they are not. Religion and science cover different fields thus should be treated separately and not be taken into comparison. From what the author wrote, he suggests that we must first be an atheist before becoming a Christian. I learned from that idea, that as a Christian, to know God or to realize that there is a God, I must first feel empty or incomplete, thus beginning my search for completeness, therefore seeking refuge to something like religion or to the notion of a God. Regarding the question stated through the title, I believe that as modern people who have known God or a Supreme Being or religion through tradition and history, we cannot be truly atheistic. This is because we already have this notion embedded in our identity that we experience God through everything that happens in our life, from the simplest task to the most complicated duty. The notion of a God or a Supreme Being gives man reason for his daily existence. Since man is imperfect, he constantly searches for that reasoning which he believes will lead him to perfection.
