Orchestra Iowa presents Brucemorchestra!

Outdoor concert at Brucemore Estate marks beginning of 2013-2014 season
Sunday, September 8 at Brucemore Estate, Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA- July 2013- Orchestra Iowa presents Brucemorchestra! on Sunday, September 8 at 7:00 p.m. at Brucemore Estate in Cedar Rapids. A historic site and community cultural center, Brucemores gorgeous estate and grounds are central to Cedar Rapids culture and heritage. Orchestra Iowa opens its 2013-2014 season with an outdoor concert for all ages. Brucemorchestra! features an array of the most famous music ever written, by composers such as Borodin, Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky. The idea for this concert is to make it classical, but crossover, said Timothy Hankewich, Orchestra Iowas music director. The intent is that almost everyone will recognize the pieces performed. Borodins Polovetsian Dances from his opera, Prince Igor, allows listeners to transcend the evening into an exotic new world. Also known as Strangers in Paradise from its use in an early 1900s Broadway musical, this recognizable piece will capture the hearts and minds of listeners. Arguably one of the most famous piano concertos ever written, Rachmaninoffs exhilarating masterpiece features Orchestra Iowas own Miko Kominami as piano soloist. Finishing the concert is Tchaikovskys Symphony No. 4, a musical tour de force that is guaranteed to have audiences leaping to their feet. Joined by the Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale and the choirs of Coe College and Mount Mercy University, the orchestra and choirs combine to provide a powerful musical experience.
