Aim of this activity: The aim of this activity is for you to have an interview with a teacher handling your area of concentration/major. In the interview, you will ask about his/her experience of utilizing instructional materials in the learning tasks. After the interview, you will answer accomplish the task found in Part 2 of this sheet.
Instructions: 1) Look for a teacher who is currently teaching your major/area of concentration. (Ex. A SPED teacher, pre-school teacher, high school Mathematics teacher, and the like) 2) When s/he agrees to have this interview with you, please indicate the needed information in the template below.

Grade/Year Level Taught: 1st Year- 4th Year Subject: SPED subjects Best teaching practices used in the subject: (You can ask what strategies and methods s/he uses) The teaching strategies that Maam Mia uses are conducting lectures, discussions. She let her students participate through interactive participation. She also uses videos, case study analysis, demonstrations and lets the students engage in question and answer.

Reasons for using these teaching practices: Using the above strategies in her discussion, Maam Mia aims that each of her lecture is always focused on the learners. She is using the student-centered type of teacher. She lets the student engage in their learning. In other words, the students are the one accountable for their learning and Maam Mia serves as just the facilitator how facilitators her students. She said that this promotes critical thinking among her students and through this they can apply their Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)

TIPS (Please ask the teacher of any recommendation/advise s/he can give on how you can best maximize the use of instructional materials in teaching a subject.) 1. The very first thing to remember when using instructional materials especially to children with special needs is safety. The IMs should be safe to use, including small parts that could be swallowed._________________________________________________________________________ 2. When using toys as IMs be sure that there are no small parts that might the children might swallow. We should consider the color of the IMs because there are children that are very sensitive to color. Be sure to also to use non-toxic materials.________________________________________________ 3. When using puppets and clown as IMs, be sure to consider or know the background of the learners, his/ her fears because some learners are afraid of clowns and puppets._________________ 4. To best maximize the use of IMs, the teacher should consider the variations of these IMs depending on the set-up that will help address the different needs of the learners, especially learners with special needs.___________________________________________________________________________ 5. The teachers should also use concrete materials when using IMs, but again safety must be observed.__________________________________________________________________________ 6.
