YEAR 8 Health KEY ASSESSMENT TASK

Making Healthy Choices


This is a Two PART task. Please ensure that you give a consistent amount of effort to both of the two sections of the assessment. Include a bibliography of all resources used to research your assignment.

PART ONE: HEALTHY BREAKFAST, LUNCH OR SNACK (25 marks)

Due Date: 19/8, 26/8, 2/9

Depending on when your class has its HAPE class timetabled, you must research & present a HEALTHY breakfast, school lunch item or snack food. Requirements: Research a healthy option for breakfast, a snack or lunch . You will need to be aware of the nutritional value of your food. Prepare & bring to class the food you have selected. Explain your choice to the class (oral presentation) & provide a sample for each student to try. (this is only a sample, not a banquet!). In your explanation you will need to justify your choice of food to the class by addressing the following question: 1) What makes your food choice healthy for a growing teenager? Explain the nutritional benefits of your food (eg: food groups, vitamins, fibre content, energy value). Was your food easy to prepare and serve? You will be marked on your presentation and organizational skills.

PART TWO: BODY IMAGE (35 marks)

Due Date: 14th October

Your task is to explore and research the topic of Body Image. Your findings can be presented in any of the following formats: * Power point presentation * Brochure * Magazine * Movie *Book Note: All styles of presentation will be worth exactly the same marks, however it is very important that you address all questions asked and provide plenty of detail. MARKS WILL BE GIVEN FOR THE QUALITY & CREATIVITY OF YOUR PRESENTATION

Description The student is able to identify some of the major nutrients necessary for growth and activity for young people and shows limited understanding of body image issues. She is also able to show some understanding of body image issues AND is able to identify and analyse the influences on family food selection. AND is able to analyse the range of influences on personal and family food selection and identify major nutritional needs for growth and activity. She is also able to discuss in depth the relationship between body image, health and wellbeing, the media and other influences. AND is able to identify patterns of food consumption in Australia, for example the consumption levels of fruit, vegetables and take away food. AND displays knowledge of factors contributing to current trends in nutrition in Australia.
