ABSTRACT An Earthquake is produced by sudden release of tremendous amount of energy with in the earth by sudden movement of Earth's various layers. It may harm badly designed and constructed buildings which may injure or kill its inhabitants. However, if the structure has ductile behavior, it may increase the strength of the building. RC structure and steel structure have ductile nature, hence are suitable for construction. The latest version of Seismic Zoning Map of India given in the earthquake resistant design code of India [IS 1893 (Part 1) 2002] assigns four levels of seismicity for India in terms of zone factors. In other words, the earthquake zoning map of India divides India into 4 seismic zones (Zone 2, 3, 4 and 5) according to which, Zone 5 expects the highest level of seismicity whereas Zone 2 is associated with the lowest level of seismicity. The main objective of this project is to study the effect of all the Seismic Zones of India on both RC and Steel structures. The effect it has on the cost of structures is evaluated and a feasible solution is suggested for all the same. A detailed estimate is carried out and the various details such as the Bending moment, Deflection and Variation in reinforcements are compared. After the earthquake analysis done by both Pseudo static and Response spectrum method (As In Accordance to IS1893 ) a suitable conclusion can be drawn.
