ALL-STATE DISTRICT/ZONE REHEARSALS

The following policy was approved by the NCMEA Choral Section on Jan. 28, 2005 E. All State Choral Festival Eligibility 3. Students must attend a district rehearsal to participate in the NC All State Choral Festival. PURPOSE: The district rehearsals are designed to enhance the overall All-State Chorus experience by helping students thoroughly prepare the music for the All State Choral Festival. District rehearsals have had a tremendous positive impact on the All State Choral Festival. The clinicians have been very pleased with the level of preparation and musicianship of each choir. Directors comments indicated the district rehearsals actually saved rehearsal time. Directors also enjoyed the opportunity to work with other directors in their district. Students appreciated the opportunity to rehearse the music in a full choir setting. They were also glad to meet fellow musicians in their district before the All-State Festival. The schedule for All-State District Rehearsals is found in this article. Directors may attend rehearsals out of their district if necessary. Please check for revisions to the District Rehearsal Schedule at the In-Service Conference. HOW IT WORKS: Each singer and choral director must attend a zone rehearsal to be eligible for the All-State Chorus. There are at least 8 districts or regions as listed in the Choral Section Constitution. The district rehearsal date is set by the district rehearsal host. District rehearsals are held between December 1st and at least one week before the All State Choral Festival. District rehearsals last 3 hours, usually 5:00 8:00. Participants rehearse with the other musicians from their district. Directors from each district take turns conducting and accompanying the rehearsals. Attendance is checked at each rehearsal site and a list of those in attendance is sent to the All- State Coordinator. In the event a students name is not on the rehearsal list, the director will be informed that the student may not participate in the festival. Directors must attend the rehearsal with their students, remain for the duration of the rehearsal, and assist in the rehearsal. In case of emergency students may be escorted by a principals designee. Students who arrive at re hearsals without their director will not be allowed to participate in that rehearsal. The following addendum was approved by the NCMEA Choral Section on June 16, 2011: Addendum to District/Zone Rehearsal Policy: In the event that weather make up dates are snowed out IN ADDITION to regular rehearsal dates: 1. 2. 3. The entire rehearsal is to be rescheduled. Schools may attend rehearsals in other districts if they are still available. If an entire district cannot find a common date to reschedule, it may be possible to divide the district into smaller groups in order to do the rehearsals. The leaders of these rehearsals would submit proper documentation of student attendance to the Allstate Coordinators. These rehearsals would require prior approval by the NCMEA and ACDA Allstate Coordinators before taking place. If both the original rehearsal date and the weather makeup date have been cancelled, and all other avenues of making up the rehearsal are exhausted, teachers at these schools may document three hours of rehearsal time PER STUDENT, PER CHOIR and submit this documentation to the Allstate Coordinators. This rehearsal time must take place after the assigned time of the original district rehearsal. This would require prior approval by the NCMEA Allstate Coordinator, the ACDA Allstate Coordinator, and the NCMEA High School Section Chair. These students would be screened separately upon arrival at the Allstate Festival.
