Bowie High School Geometry/Algebra I Syllabus (Mr.

Tarango)
Dear Parents and Students, Welcome back! I hope you had a pleasant and restful summer. I am looking forward to working with both the student and the parent to ensure that education becomes a priority in our lives. After all, it was Sir Isaac Newton that said: Truth is ever to be found in the simplicity, and not in the multiplicity and confusion of things. Everyone has trouble at some point in math; the goal is to overcome those troubles. I will use the best of my abilities and as many resources that are available to me to ensure success both in the classroom as well as outside of it. It is with great pride that I look forward to the challenge of taking part in the lives of tomorrows leaders. Class Guidelines and Behavioral Expectations 1. Respect yourself, your classmates, the teacher, and the classroom. 2. Come to class prepared to learn. ( Pencil, Paper, Notebook, Book) 3. Be in your seat and working when the bell rings. 4. Follow an instruction the first time it is given. 5. This class is a no whining zone. 6. All school and district policies are in place at all times. This includes use of cell phones, MP3 players, and other electronic devices. 7. Follow the Dress Code as set by Bowie High School and EPISD. (Hats, Piercings, Sagging Pants No Swag, etc) Positive Consequences 1. Verbal praise 2. Positive parental contact 3. Recognition of Achievement Negative Consequences 1. Nonverbal/Verbal reminder 2. Guideline infraction notice with lunch detention 3. Action plan with parental contact and 30 minute Friday detention 4. Referral Materials 1. Pencils 2. Box of Kleenex* 3. Highlighters 4. Spiral Notebook 5. Loose Leaf Paper 6. I will provide Notebooks and Calculator

Grading Policy: 35% Tests 25% Quiz 10% Warm-Up 20% Homework 10% 9 weeks exam

Grading Policy PAP: 45% Tests 15% Quiz 10% Homework 20% 9 wks Project 10% 9 weeks exam

Extra Help Policy There is tutoring before school from 7:30 8:30 am, during lunch, and after school from 3:45 5:00 pm. Also, if you cannot make these times, make an appointment with the teacher and we will work something out. Other teachers are available also if the student wishes to seek them for help. Things to Keep in Mind: o Students are responsible for obtaining make-up work if they are absent. Each student will have one day to make up work for each day they are absent (District policy). o Copied papers will result in a zero for both students copier and copiee. o Absolutely, No late homework will be accepted. o We are all young adults; lets try to act like it.
