Intention is a key characteristic

Dissent
Actors

Intentions

Setting: Place, margin, Political/economic

Ministries, External Government, International community, other governments, the Public

Use this framework to answer all the questions on dissent. Examples of Dissent:
Tiananmen Square Anna Hazare: Corruption Civil Rights movement Occupy Wall Street Sterilisation of women: Chen Guang-cheng LGBT: Pink movement

Lets distinguish Dissent from Revolution per se. Anything that challenges the whole state and system of laws and policies would be considered a revolution, not a dissent. All policy debates are set within a certain context, with respect to the state and a particular set of laws. So policy debates would fall under the dissent category, since the specifically critique a certain status quo of how a certain policy is being implemented. Weighted motions: change the weight! Example in a prop case for Child pornography you may make it seem like Child pornography is the only way these kids make money for their families. TH applauds Anna Hazare. Prop: Corruption is wrong and is not being solved in India. And the only way to do this is to increase International pressure on the country. Anna Hazare managed this. Therefore we applaud him. Prop: People are dying from poverty and etc.

Opp: his actions undermined the Law. The indian government simply rushed the matter and came up with populist measures to sate the crowds: will not actually solve the problems.
