Abstract: Trusses are special structures that provide high strength while utilizing relatively little material. These aspects make trusses attractive in applications such as bridges, pylons, and buildings. Our goal was to design a custom built planar truss from brass tubing, and then use a truss buster to test the maximum load the truss could support before failure. This report will discuss the process of designing, constructing and testing our proposed design, and discuss the successes and failures our group encountered along the way. This project had several limitations and criteria which had to be accounted for, and these provided a great challenge in developing a functional product. Limitations such as material and time exist in the real world, and this project provided practice designing with such constraints in mind.
