PLO Rankings The following list ranks the Program Learning Objectives according to my personal professional instructional needs

with my employer. The rankings could change if I were to change positions within the company or go to work for another firm or perhaps a school system again.

1) PLO 1 Demonstrate knowledge and skills related to learning using technology. As an experienced classroom instructor with over 20 years of teaching experience I am in the process of making the transition to the virtual classroom. I made the transition from the blackboard to the whiteboard to the overhead projector and to the computer and computer projector. The primary technology tool has been PowerPoint. Newer tools for me have included, Jing, Captivate, and Excel, wikis, blogs, Ning, mind mapping, podcasting and Twitter. These tools are not to be confused with the content. Tools are a medium for delivering, displaying and exchanging the content. New tools will always come along, what is more important is to understand and properly apply the available tools to meet the desired educational need at the moment. Such knowledge and skills include the proper use of words with graphics, words or graphics alone, sound and audio narration, graphs and diagrams as well as proper sequencing and learner involvement. New tools will emerge but their proper use in education will remain central to educational and learner success. The corporation for which I am employed as an instructor depends on technology for much of our communication. I spend 30 to 40 weeks a year traveling. My scheduling, automobile and hotel reservations, weekly timesheet, student enrollment and presentations are all technology dependent. It is essential that as an employee/instructor I possess the skills necessary to learn, teach, communicate and keep records using technology as well as be able to teach others the same.

2) PLO 2 Demonstrate knowledge and skills in current and emerging instructional technologies. Emergent technologies that I am personally facing are the use of WebEx for distance learning, the use of Smart boards and the latest related software as well as ReadyTech. These are relatively new and emerging technologies for me although I have gained some experience with each of these in the last eight months. ReadyTech is an especially interesting and useful technology. This technology allows the instructor to teach a class synchronously online, assign a each student a computer related on-screen project, and then have the ability to view each students computer screen in real-time. This allows the instructor to instantly provide the learner assistance just as if the instructor were physically present at the students computer.

3) PLO 5 Exemplify ethical practices of technology usage. As an employee with an international corporation I am required to take a series of ethical practices seminars online each year. The company has a very strong ethics policy. As a developer of e-learning programs and lessons I am held to a high standard of ethical practice regarding copyrights, citations and the use of materials. For that reason we usually take our own photographs so as to reduce or eliminate the problems associated with copyrighted photographs. I am well aware of the implications and importance of this PLO.

4) PLO 3 Design learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the needs of all learners. My current position requires me to create PowerPoint presentations, revise presentations created by others in the past and to create screen casts of company software packages which are often embedded into PowerPoint presentations or used in live WebEx presentations. The proper creation and delivery of these instructional packages uses multimedia to meet the wide variety of needs of each learner due to his or her particular combination of learning modalities.

5) PLO 8 Demonstrate the ability to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of learning and leadership. I expect this area to soon become more important to me in my position as a corporate instructor. I moved this PLO up from last on the list to a higher level as I expect to be using newly discovered (new to me) technology tools that can be utilized in both synchronous and asynchronous course offerings I will be teaching in the future.

6) PLO 7 Utilize technology to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings. Currently, my primary use for technology in this category is for effective communication. Management collects and analyzes any data for me and based on this analysis communicates findings to me for potential use in classes.

7) PLO 4 Apply research to support learning in a technology-enhanced environment. In my current position, my responsibilities do not require me to perform any formal research. As an instructor I obviously informally gather student opinions regarding our classroom materials and delivery. However, more formal research at my company is fairly limited by both depth and degree and such decisions to conduct research are out of my control. It is possible that with the trend of big data that 2

such research may become an established process. Currently this is not a high priority with my company and therefore not a part of my duties.

8) PLO 6 Evaluate technology resources to facilitate effective assessment and evaluation. In my position as a corporate instructor I am not allowed to give customer-learners exams. We are not allowed to give them so much as a simple pretest, quiz or end of course content oriented final quiz. The only assessment we are allowed to give to customer-learners is an end of course survey asking the customer for their opinion of the course, materials and instructor. Therefore, this PLO is currently at the bottom of my ranking. It would be placed much higher if I were teaching at a college level as I have in my past career. A past highlight occurred when I was able to borrow an audience response system for use in class as a participation and assessment tool. That very positive and fun experience for both the instructor and students remains embedded in my memory and I look forward to an opportunity to use one again. I consider an audience response system to be a prime example of the use of technology in a classroom to meet PLO 1-3 & 6.
