Class Overview Accounting will serve as an introduction to the fundamental principles and procedures of accounting with a focus on real-world applications. Using both manual and computerized accounting systems, students will be required to complete practical accounting problems. Upon completion of the course, students should possess a sound understanding of the accounting equation, business structures, financial transactions, the general ledger, and several personal finance principles. In this course, students will study the basic accounting principles, become familiar with common accounting terminology, and learn the complete accounting cycle. Students will develop an understanding of the methods used to develop financial records for a business enterprise, with emphasis on the sole proprietorship, by recording and preparing statements concerning assets, liabilities, and the operating results of a business. Students will learn how to plan, record, analyze, interpret, and forecast the finances of businesses. Textbook and workbook learning will be supplemented with the QuickBooks and Peachtree accounting software package; the Microsoft EXCEL program. Topics will be reinforced through active participation in DECA competitions, speakers, and other accounting-related events. Prerequisite: Principles of Business (6113-C) or approval of Director of Math and Business Technology. Come to class prepared with a pen or pencil, book, notebook, and completed assignments Stay in your assigned seat unless the teacher advises students otherwise. Computers are only to be used as instructed by the teacher. Unauthorized or inappropriate use will be not accepted. Consequences The classroom rules will allow our class to operate smoothly on a daily basis. If you choose to ignore the rules, there will be the following consequences. Grading Policy Student grades will be determined from tests, quizzes, computer exercises, problem worksheets/workbook, writing assignments, and projects. If a student is absence for a test or quiz, the student will be required to make up the missed test or quiz upon their first day back from their absence. Failure to do this will result in a zero for the test or quiz. It is the students responsibility to arrange for the make up. It is the students responsibility to submit all assignments and projects by the due date. It is strongly encouraged for students to submit their work prior to the due date to avoid any issue with late submission. There will be ample time given for the completion of assignments and projects. View the due date as the last possible date to submit your work, not as the first day it will be accepted. Late work will be marked down by 10% each day it is late. Class Rules Respect must exist between the teacher and students as well as between students and other students. Computers and Internet use are only to be used as instructed by the teacher. Unauthorized or inappropriate use will not be accepted. Students are required to check their First Class school email accounts and Gmail on a daily basis while in school and at least every other day while out of school. All assignments will be posted to your Gmail school email account and you must login upon entering the class on a daily basis. Submission of completed daily assignments will be printed. Your Projects must be submitted through gmail.

Consequences The classroom rules will allow our class to operate smoothly on a daily basis. If you choose to ignore the rules, there will be the following consequences. (Note: Subject to change at the discretion of the teacher.)
