Lesson Title: Heart Failure (Lesson number four in the

Lesson Purpose: This lesson will facilitate a basic
understanding of the mechanisms and
nursing interventions of congestive heart
failure.

Lesson Learner Objectives: At the end of this lesson, the student will
1. Discuss the pathophysiology of
heart failure.
2. Compare and contrast the
differences between right and left
heart failure.
3. Utilize the nursing process and
nursing care plan form to identify
appropriate nursing interventions
for heart failure

Setting for this Learning Activity: Outside the classroom.

Type of Learning Activity: Students will write a Nursing Care Plan


for the case scenario that will include:
1. Assessment supporting nursing
diagnosis; including subjective
and objective data
2. Three nursing diagnoses
3. Short term and long term goals
for each nursing diagnosis
4. Three nursing interventions for
each goal
5. Scientific rationale, with
references, for each intervention
6. Evaluation of each nursing
intervention (if unable to
determine outcome, discuss
potential outcomes with
alternative interventions)
