citizens are still some of the gr acious old
F tench Canadians, whose tales carry one
back to the f urs and trails, bla nkets, beads
a nd " tawbons" of the early days.
The landscape is that of the Master Hand,
wi th virile charm and rugged variety. The
morning is the mor e kind after the chill of
the night; and the brightest day is the more
grateful because of the cloud and shadow of
yesterday. But the ':ariant have

A WALK IN HARBOR POINT
Harbor Point
"'The Newport of the Lakes"
Situa ted on a narrow point of which
forms the finest harbor on the Great Lakes.
A Government Lighthouse, on the sand tip
lying like a nail to this finger of land, directs
the sailor from the storms of the open sea
to the peace of the Harbor within.
Although less than fifty acres entire, there
are hills and level ground, natural terraces
and gently r olling opens, heavily timbered
preserves of an original grandeur, surf
beach and shor es as r estful as the face of
a mirror. There are picturesque Swiss
chalets and log cabins, and others more
worthy the name of villa and palace. The
Club House, r ecently built new, is worthy of
its site in particulars of luxury and manage-
ment, and Harbor Point has come to rank
with the Atlantic coast watering places.
We-Que-Ton-Sing
The place had its name a century before
the white man dreamed of it as a summer
home: The Indian word for "little bay" in-
dicates the ideal location of the thriving re-
sort at the mouth of the harbor. From the
water one sees the long wharf and dock pa-
vilion, behind which stretch t he clean
gravel beach and the thousand cluster ed
birches, sheltering a hundred picturesque
cottages. Fir st from the landing and the
railway station stands the We-Que-Ton-Sing
Hotel, one of the best equipped and most
accommodating public houses in the north-
ern r esort r egion.
Roaring Brook
This deservedly popular r esort lies along
the inner bay shore a mile east from Harbor
Springs. The conspicuous Inn stands far
back on the bluff-brow, overlooking the
water and the flat woodland of cedars.
Through this winds a beautiful stream.
whose name the r esort bears, and the gravel
drives and walks, c rossed by perpetual
shadows and arched by natural canopies.
Ther e are cottages imbedded in the trees
along the beach, and on the pla teau above
the settled farm country stretches away to
the north. It is not immodest to call this a
paradise for picture makers and the joy of
all nature lovers. Such is the testimony of
ever y visitor .

So well does the poet describe it that one
might suspect he had stood befor e Forest
Beach. The hotel is of modern architecture,
splendid appointment and as
ing as one's own home. The r esort hes
ideally, a mile f rom Harbor Point, on the
bay shore; the beautiful body of water, with
all its phases, stretched before it, the un-
tampered woods about it and the pine-cov-
ered bluff rising close behind. Here the
pine trees, standing against the trembling
gold of the distant water, throw their cool
shadows across the Association Links, cov-
ering eighty acres, gently rolling and well
kept; and near the roadside stands the in-
viting Golf Club bungalow.
l dylwilde
To the west, with its quaint rustic bridge
spanning the clear silent brook, invites the
lover of quiet and beauty.
Beyond this Resort, winding, for miles,
along the towering bluff overlooking Lake
Michigan, is the famous Shore Road, pro-
nounced by all who have seen it to be "The
Most Beautiful Drive in America." Along
which, through virgin forests, undesecrated
by the hand of man, automobiles carry hun-
dreds of the Nation's notables to the quaint
and ancient Indian settlements of Middle
Village and Cross Village, and to the most
unique eating place in Michigan which lies
midway between these picturesque vil-
lages-
. The Old Trail Tavern
Built entirely of white pine logs, this beau-
tiful little Tavern stands on a lofty bluff ov-
erlooking Lake Michigan, surrounded by
thousands of acres of virgin forest. It has
come to be the rendezvous for the elite of
the Nation seeking a "place to go that's
difieren t."
In selecting a place to spend your summer
you will be concerned with-
What do I get to eat?
Where do I go to sleep ?
How am I to be entertained withal?
