MUAR 1 - ACTIVITY LESSON PLAN:

Objectives
Practise sequencing steps to makesardine sandwiches. Able to follow instructions on how to make sandwiches.

Fun with Sandwiches!


Prior Knowledge
Recognise familiar foods eg. Nasi Lemak

Materials
Ingredients: bread, prepared sardines, cucumber, butter/margarine (enough for class); steps cards 1 piece per instruction (1 set per group); Plates, spoons (enough per group); Aprons (enough for each pupil); Chart for ingredient flashcards; Ingredient picture flashcards for chart; Question cards: A and B 1 set per pair.

Activity Instructions
1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) Warm up activity pupils are given a question card each and pair up A and B. Pupils have dialogue about breakfast, filling in the blanks. Introduce the ingredients using picture chart. Elicit ingredients. Go through the steps on board teacher and pupils read. Steps are erased each group races to order the steps cards. Listening; steps are hidden, groups prepare sandwiches from instruction. Best sandwiches win!

Steps: 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) First, take a slice of bread. Spread some butter on it. Then, scoop a tablespoon of sardines. Spread it evenly on top of the butter. After that, take a few slices of cucumber. Arrange them neatly on top of sardines. Lastly, take another slice of bread. Put it on the last layer. Now, your sandwich is ready to be served.

Dialogue: A: Did you have breakfast this morning? B: Yes I did. A: What did you have? B: I had _____________.

Modifications
Of course, recipe can be changed. Steps can be more difficult for higher pupils and less for lower pupils. Dialogue can be extended or shortened too. For a challenge, pupils can read the instructions during preparation.
