Write some examples of..

Here is what we discussed together in class (also added are some ideas from Mr Joyces class). Can you elaborate on any of them? Do you have different examples/ideas?
Stagecraft Lighting Strobe, angled lights, Devon was warm (talk about the lighting temperature as a specific example), soft, yellow lighting (talk about the colours as a specific example remember it is lighting gels that give us the colour), War was harsh whites and harsh blacks, low level and side lighting, the use of shadows and silhouettes, single spot lights created focus, camera flashes This was used to demonstrate explosions, bombs < use specific examples, ie WHY was this used? Props -

Set flyes (items of set that fly in from the ceiling), the projection screen (also a symbol of Alberts torn paper), The farm doors were made of timer, were worn/old, this demonstrated the time period and social class. Costume The puppeteers costume colourings blended in with the colours of the puppets, the costumes allowed the audience to understand who the characters were and where they come from - for example it was clear that Ted came from the farm and Arthur was more well off, costumes reflected the time period, status/roles/nationality in war. Sound effects/music Tone (happy or sad-major or minor), contrast in sounds during war to exemplify the conflict, the emotions, the tension, etc Expressive Skills Facial expression Emotional insight, personality, relationships with others. Use specific examples, HOW does an actor use their bodies to create their character? Make sure you clearly explain what you are talking about so that a dopy actor may understand how to use their expressive skills to recreate what you are talking about. Use adjectives as well to fully explain what you are describing. Gesture small movements (usually with the arms or hands) usually indicating emotion, intention, or instruction. For example; Albert used a slow, suspenseful gesture in the front of his body with his arms, with his palms up, to plead with his father to not sell Joey. Voice Accent, singing, pitch (high or low), pace (speed), pause (pauses for dramatic intention) Movement Sit, stance, walk, whole body movement Dramatic Elements (CCCSSSTTLMFR Mr Joyces song) Climax Contrast Conflict Sound Song, sound effects, birds Space Use of the aisles in the stalls, the trenches, the ramp at the front Symbol The projector screen was in the shape of Alberts ripped page Tension Between Ted and Albert, this is evident in expressive skills Timing -

Language Mood positive/happy mood, negative/sad or anxious mood Focus use to tableaux, use of spot lighting Rhythm Theatrical Conventions Transformation of object, character or place big sticks at the start used as fences and gates Disjointed time sequence Flashbacks, letter writing scene Tableau When Joey was sold to the Army, during the letter writing scene with Albert/David and Rose/Ted. Exaggerated movement slow motion (charging of horses, Major Nichols death, Topthorns death, running the trenches) Performance Style Puppetry How the puppets were used? Non-naturalism

Your turn..
Have a go at adding some more ideas yourself below. You dont have to fill in all of them, just do what you can in preparation for your SAC on Monday!! Think about the social and historical contexts of the show that you have looked at last week; how (for example) does the historical context, such as time period, influence the production? Can you see examples in the stagecraft? Can you see examples in the way disjointed time sequence is used? Just something to think about!
