Math Test Corrections

Level 1-2
Incorrect 2d) 36 x 0.6 = 2.16 Correct 2d) 36 x 0.6 = 21.6 Reflection The reason I got the answer to this wrong, is because I put the decimal in the wrong place. I do know where to put it using the lattice method, which I use. A method I couldve used which would have probably given me the right answers is the Long Multiplication method; its less confusing because there are less boxes and lines.

Level 3-4
Incorrect 3a) Find the HCF/GCF of 36 and 48. Write in index notation; 12 Correct 3a) Find the HCF/GCF of 36 and 48. Write in index notation; 2 x 2 x 3 = 12 Reflection The reason I got this wrong is because I didnt read the instructions carefully, and didnt notice the index notation. There is no alternate method to do this.

Incorrect 3e) Show as a product of prime factors in index form: 240 = 2 x 15 Correct 3e) Show as a product of prime factors in index form: 240 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 15 Reflection I made the same mistake again; I forgot to show the answer in index form. I really need to read the questions more carefully.

Level 5-6
Incorrect 5b) Evaluate when p= 4, q= -3, r= -2, and s= 4 s - 2q = 58 Correct 5b) Evaluate when p= 4, q= -3, r= -2, and s= 4 s - 2q = 70 Reflection I got this wrong, because I forgot that by taking away a negative number, the number grows. There arent really other methods; I should just remember the rule.

Incorrect

(same numbers as above)

5c) 3(2p + 4r) = 384 Correct 5c) 3(2p + 4r) = -12

Reflection I got this wrong because I AGAIN forgot about the negative rule, or I forgot to put it. I should next time be more careful. I know that I got it wrong because of negatives, because I tested it with my calculator, doing it the way I did in the test.

Level 7-8 Incorrect 7) Find: (3m = (3m Correct 7) Find: (3m = 18m -8m Reflection I got this wrong for 2 reasons, the first is I confused multiplying and adding terms in algebra, and I forgot about the multiplying negative rules. I should double check my answers for Level 7-8, because Im known to make silly mistakes which cost me 5 points. Incorrect 9) A glass contains alcohol and water in the ratio of 1:4. A second glass contains double the quantity of liquid, and the ratio of alcohol and water in the ratio 2:3. Both these glasses are mixed in a third glass. What is the ratio of alcohol to water in the final mixture? 5:10 = 1:2 Correct 9) A glass contains alcohol and water in the ratio of 1:4. A second glass contains double the quantity of liquid, and the ratio of alcohol and water in the ratio 2:3. Both these glasses are mixed in a third glass. What is the ratio of alcohol to water in the final mixture? 1:4 + (2:3 x 2) = 1:2 Final answer= 1:2 x 6m) (4m x -2m) x 6m) (4m x -2m)

x 6m) 8m

Reflection I didnt show my work, which cost me 5 points and possibly a 6/8. My final answer was always correct, I checked with Noor, who got this one right. My alternate method is SHOW YOUR WORK!
