OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE is a computer software for which the human-readable source code
is made available under a copyright license or arrangement such as the public domain that meets
the Open Source Definition.
HARDWARE is the physical part of a computer, including its digital circuitry, as distinguished
from the computer software that executes within the hardware.
SOFTWARE is a program which consists of a set of instruction that tells the computer how to
perform a specific operation.
HARDWARE
1) CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT (CPU)
Perform most of the calculation which enable a computer to function, sometimes referred to
as the ‘brain’ of the computer.
SOFTWARE
1) WORD PROCESSING
Enable users to create, edit, format and print textual document.
2) PRESENTATION
Allow users to create visual aid for presentations to communicate ideas, informations to a
group.
3) GRAPHICS EDITING
Can edit digital representations or non-text information such as photograph.
EXAMPLES
Microsoft Office, Appleworks.
PERVASIVE COMPUTING
PERVASIVE COMPUTING - The trend towards increasingly ubiquitous (another name for the
movement is ubiquitous computing), connected computing devices in the environment, a trend
being brought about by a convergence of advanced electronic - and particularly, wireless -
technologies and the Internet.
CONCLUSION
Open source highlights that the source code is viewable to all and proponents of the term usually
emphasize the quality of the software and how this is caused by the development models which
are possible and popular among free and open source software projects.
