Experimental Parts INDEPENDENT VARIABLE - the item you are testing DEPENDENT VARIABLE- the results of the item

you are testing VARIABLE - factors that affect your results Whenever you perform an experiment you should always have

setups.

CONTROL- the experiment without the independent variable EXPERIMENTAL - the experiment with the independent variable You must ALWAYS have two setups so that you are ELIMINATING VARIABLES, and only testing

item at a time.

During your experiment you may find the following measurements: 1. MASS - the amount of matter 2. VOLUME- how much space an object takes up 3. LENGTH - the distance of an object 4. DENSITY - the amount of matter in a given space You will use the following tools and units to measure each: MASS VOLUME LENGTH Tool Triple beam Graduated Ruler balance cylinder Unit Grams (g) Milliliters (mL) Centimeters (cm) DENSITY Ruler and graduated cylinder g/mL

Whenever you perform an experiment you want to REPEAT IT several times to make sure your results are VALID. Sometimes you may want to test a new variable. As long as you follow the same PROCEDURE your results will be accurate.
