Roles of SLMS and Artifacts Roles: Informational Specialist The SLMS must know what is expected of him/her through the counties handbook and how the Media Center is expected to handle things. She/he must also know how to raise money for the Media Center and create a budget that works for her/him and the stakeholders of the building. She/he must also be knowledgeable in using Galileo and other online databases. Reflection Connecting Outcomes, Standards, and Artifacts I was able to meet the outcomes in this section by creating a budget and discussing with my mentor how she determined what the center needed each year. I also met this standard by researching various handbooks and creating a handbook myself for a media center. By creating a layout of the media center and creating an orientation I was able to see how this would not only help with organizing the facility but also lend to professional development.

I worked with a group of other candidates to create a two year media plan that took various reading programs/promotions and implemented them throughout the school. I also researched the pro/cons of flexible scheduling

She/he should be just as aware of the classroom standards and how to implement them into the media center as a classroom teacher. She/he should also be aware of the AASL standards and how to incorporate them with the state standards. Having a school website updated and attractive for students and parents is essential. I have had to create different professional development plans for future use in a media center. I also have to research and create a presentation for a principal about why the media center and media specialist is important to any school. In various classes I have also had to create different projects using various types of technology tools and presentation features to become familiar with what is currently available. coming to the understanding that it is beneficial to any media center. I looked into the technology available to the teachers and students at my school and with the help of my mentor learned how to fix them, use them, and integrate them into classrooms.

Roles: Teacher SLMS should understand that students are different and will have different needs in the media center. She/he should be able to maintain management of the students and be able to meet their learning styles. The media center should be assessable to all students and arranged so that any student can visit the media center. The collection of materials should also be diverse to meet students needs who may not be able to get the material anywhere else. Being a teacher for the past 16 years has helped me see how students learn and how each on is different. By completing Impact on Learning activities Ive learned how the media center plays into that as well. I have done a BookTalk to teach first grade students about personification and taught students the Dewey Decimal System. I also worked with a group of candidates in the program to complete a school wide media lesson plan that reached all students within a school on the topic Seasons.
