Tea/Spring 2012

For this field experience, I observed the Tea Elementary Resource Room. I was in this classroom for a full school day (9 hours). I chose to spend the whole day there so I could observe not only the classroom time with students, but also the prep work involved before and after. While I was in the classroom I worked with students on their reading comprehension. Through this experience, I learned what is all involved in working in a SPED classroom. 1 EDFN 338- Foundations of Brandon/Spring 2012 American Education For this field experience, I observed a Brandon Elementary 4th grade classroom. Again, I was in the classroom for a full day (8 Hours). I wanted to see if the process was the same as it was for the SPED classroom. During my time in this classroom I mainly observed. While we were in the computer lab I walked around and helped students with any math questions if they had them. I also read to the students when the teacher needed to step out of the room. Through this experience, I learned some different classroom management techniques and got to see different ways that interactive white boards could be used. 1 EPSY 302- Educational Aberdeen/Spring 2011 Psychology I complete this course online through Northern State University. There was no field experience required for this course. 2 ELED 440- Language Arts Sioux Falls/Spring 2013 Methods For this field experience, I was in the Hayward 4th grade Resource Room. I spent an hour working with students for an hour for 8 weeks (8 Hours). Working with the classroom teacher, I prepared a lesson plan for each session. Through this experience, I learned the different methods to use with students when teaching Language Arts. 2 PE 360- Physical Education Madison/Spring 2013 Methods For this field experience, we worked with the Madison HeadStart students. We met the students in the Madison armory twice a week for a total of 15 hours. College students were grouped into twos and had to teach two lessons each for two days (4 lesson plans each, 8 for the week). The other students were responsible to make sure the HeadStart students were following instruction and helping them through the activities. Through this experience, I learned different ways to work on physical and cognitive development, with children, though physical play. 3 SPED 442- Serving Students with Sioux Falls/Spring 2013 Learning Disabilities For this field experience, I was in the Hayward 4th grade Resource Room. I was in the classroom for 15 hours observing, working with students. I was able to look at different testing forms and sit in on two IEP meetings. Through this experience, I learned the ins and outs of a SPED classroom. We spent time covering different students, the needs they have and how they were met. It was a very interesting experience for me.
