Onomatopoeia

Onomatopoeia is the formation or use of words that imitate the sounds


associated with the objects or actions they refer to.

Onomatopoeia can also be thought of as a word that imitates the sound it


represents. This sound device can help to bring out the full flavor of words. By
comparing and associating syllables which imitate or reproduce the sounds they
describe, a word’s meaning may be strengthened.

Examples:
Although onomatopoeia covers a wide range of sounds, much onomatopoeia seems
to fall into a few categories, with the most, by far, being associated with the sounds
made by animals. Here are some onomatopoetic words, grouped by category:

words that imitate sound.
BAM!! BOOM!! CRACK!! POW!!
In fact, cartoon versions of Batman are known
for scenes where such words appear on screen
as Batman takes care of business.
