Marketing students will understand:
Communications, interpersonal skills and customer service foster positive working relationships. The image presented by a person, product or business or culture affects how it is viewed by others. Knowledge of marketing influences consumer buying decisions and behavior. The marketing concept and functions enhance all aspects of business and industry.

GRADING:
The grading system used by the Marketing Department at Kempsville High School is based on the VBCPS accepted scale as shown below: 93 - 100 A Parent Portal Information 90 92 AThe VBCPS Parent Portal is an online tool to monitor 87 - 89 B+ assignments, dues dates, attendance and grades in this class. If you have any questions or would like assistance with signing up, please contact the 73 76 C Kempsville High School library. 70 72 C67 69 D+ Grades will be updated weekly in Parent Portal. 64 66 D Below 64 E Your nine weeks grade will be determined by the following: Class work/Homework 60% Test/Projects 30% (Projects include: Sales Presentation; Create-a-Product; Advertising Project) Class Participation 10% Co-op students (students receive two credits and have a marketing related job): Class and co-op grades are combined for one grade for the 9 weeks Class credit = 63% of the 9 weeks grade; Co -op credit = 37% of the 9 weeks grade. If a student fails to meet the co-op guidelines, he/she may receive a failing grade for the 9 weeks or for the year regardless of his/her class average.

CLASSWORK:
To be completed by the end of class for credit. Completed work should be placed in the "in" box and picked up from the "out" box. Late work will be accepted with a deduction of 10 points per class. Extra help can be provided during 4th block in rm. 103 if needed.

HOMEWORK:
To be turned in on the due date. Late assignments will be accepted only in the event of an excused absence and must be turned in the first day back unless special arrangements have been made.

ABSENCES/MAKE-UP:
Un-excused absences: students will not be allowed to make-up work. Students missing more than 6 days of class (not to include testing, ISS, and field trips) per semester will receive an E for the semester unless an attendance waiver is approved Missing 15 or more minutes of class counts as an absence. Excused absences: student has 5 school days to make-up and turn in assignments and must make-up missed test/quizzes on his/her next day back to class. Make-up work is the students responsibility. Check the assignment sheet to obtain missed work. If needed, the student should remain after class to pick up missed work. Late work will be accepted with a deduction of points (10 pts. per class)

PARTICIPATION:
Each student is awarded 100 points at the beginning of each nine weeks. You may lose points for activities such as: sleeping; excessive talking; being disruptive; working on another class assignment; failure to bring materials to class. Five points will be deducted for each occurrence.

FOOD AND DRINK IN THE CLASSROOM:


Students may not leave class to get food. School breakfasts are permitted in class during the first 10 minutes of arrival in the event of late buses. Students may consume healthy beverages from closeable bottles (exception: computer labs, science labs and library). Energy drinks and sodas are not allowed. No deliveries of food from outside of school are allowed.

USE OF STUDENT PLANNER:


The school planner is intended to aid students in managing all aspects of their school day including keeping track of assignments and due dates, A and B days, serving as a hall pass, rules and expectations, and school events.

USE OF STUDENT OWNED TECHNOLOGY:


The use of student owned portable communication devices is encouraged. A Red / Yellow / Green system will be used to indicate the level of use permitted; with red meaning use is prohibited, yellow meaning use is allowed at teacher discretion, and green meaning use is allowed at student discretion. Students are expected to adhere to all guidelines listed in the Parent/Student Handbook/Planner.

DECA:
Our club for marketing students is a very important part of our class. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in and support club activities. Dues for DECA are $25.00 which includes a t-shirt. Being a DECA member allows students the opportunity to compete in district, state, and national competitions. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in school and city wide social and civic activities such as DECA Day, holiday projects and socials, homecoming, fundraisers, and field trips.

CERTIFICATION:
Marketing students are strongly encouraged to take the National Professional Customer Service Certification test. Passing the certification test will give students the opportunity to receive verified credits.

HONOR CODE:
As a student of Kempsville High School, you are expected to practice complete honesty in all school-related matters.
