Abstract:

A compact Ultra Wide Band (UWB) slot antenna with three extra strips for various wireless applications, that is fed by rectangular patch. Antenna occupies area of 25x28mm2. The position of the strips determine the perfectness of impedance matching. The additional strips covers frequency ranges of GPS 1520 to 1590 MHz Bluetooth 2385 to 2490 MHz Part of GSM 1770 to 1840 MHz

Existing Work:

The antenna comprises a tapered-shape slot and rectangular tuning stub.

The antenna is fabricated onto an inexpensive FR4 substrate with an overall dimension of 22x24 mm2.

The antenna has an average peak gain of 5.4 dB.

The antenna achieves stable radiation patterns over an

operating bandwidth of 311.2 GHz (8.2 GHz).

Proposed Work:

The antenna covers a bandwidth of 3-11.2 GHz and has a maximum gain of 5dB. The micro strip line fed Ultra wide band antenna has been fabricated onto an inexpensive FR4 substrate. The design of ultra wide band slot antenna with practical bands for the whole of GPS, Bluetooth and part of GSM. So it might be a good featured product for future multifunctional portable devices like mobile phones, GPS navigators, etc. The antenna in this proposed work implements three additional bands mentioned earlier in single structure .

Slot Antenna:

Have Omni directional radiation pattern. Density of medium has less effect on the radiation pattern.

Simple design.
Good isolation between horizontal and vertical polarization.

The substrate thickness is about 0.8mm.

In top portion the beveled rectangular patch is designed

which is fed by micro strip line.

The bottom portion is ground plane where slot is taken by placing three strips for achieving additional bands. The length of strips is found by following formula,

UWB Advantages:

Very low energy consumption.

Ability to penetrate walls (Line of sight not required).

Difficult to interfere with other bands.

Small size for high data rate designs. Easy to resolve multipath effects as pulse width is much smaller.

UWB Applications:

A Low Noise Amplifier Used in "see-through-the-wall" precision radar-imaging technology. Remote monitoring and measuring the patients' motion in short distance in hospitals. Radar/Sensor (Rescue Applications).
