I am from the mid west, and always had the dream to go to
Hollywood and be on game shows.
How long have you been in the business?

18 years. I started in 1987 after graduating from NYU.
What was your first experience with game shows?

In high school and college, I competed on the college bowl circuit,
because I was very good with trivia type games and contests.
What was your first time on a TV game show?

My first TV game show was on jeopardy, where I won $5,000.
What did you do with the money you won?

First, I flew my parents to LA to celebrate. Second, I bought a used
car to help me get around LA. I had the game show bug and was
here to stay.
What are you looking for in someone who auditions for your
TV game show?
Personality and energy. If you’re a wallflower or a shy guy or shy
girl, you need not apply.

Do you pick more men or women?
As a rule it’s 50/50. An average game show is a single contestant
or 3 persons. We have to cast both.
What if I am 18?
The minimum age is 16. If you’re between 16-18 you need
parental consent. If you’re over 18, no problem.
What if I am a senior citizen?

Better yet, people love to see the AARP set win. Everyone loves to
see a sweet grand mother make her dreams come true.
Do I have to live in LA or NY?

No. contestants come from all over the world.
Where do people stay, and how long does a game show tape?
There are several affordable hotels / motels on Highland ave. in
LA. Centrally located to all studios that tape game shows.
How much time after the audition, is the TV taping?

It could be the next day or in 3 weeks. The executive producer of
the game show is the only one who knows for sure. Please let the
casting director know of your availability. They may make special
accommodations to fit your schedule.

How many people do you cast a week?
It depends on the season. As high as 500 a week, or as low as 1 for
a project like survivor. Where there are a limited number of
contestants.
How much time after the taping will the show be on TV?
As a rule, 2 to 3 weeks. This is important because you don’t get
paid until the show airs.
What if the show is a pilot?

Avoid this type as much as you can. In most pilots you are paid a
flat fee. Even if you win a million dollars on the pilot, you forfeit
that for the flat fee. Also, you only win if the show airs. Most
pilots don’t air.
How do you advertise for people to audition?

I use a variety of sources: internet, database I built for the past 18
years (if you’re good, you can be sure I will call upon you again)
Do I get money to stay in LA or NY if they ask me back, after I

audition?
No, traveling expenses are all covered by you. Try to maximize
your travel, by setting up multiple game show auditions.

Do I need to quit my job if I keep winning?
No, typically a show tapes 8 episodes a day. Your whole time on
the show, while it looks like you were on for 2 weeks, only lasted 1
day of tapings.
Can I contact casting directors by email?

You can, but we get so much spam, we rarely read email from
people we don’t know.

Why did’nt you take the deal?

I got greedy. All I could see was Hawaiian beaches and sipping
tropical cocktails on a crystal blue beach.
What were you thinking?

In my Head I had already won, and was not thinking about the
possibilities I could be wrong. My logic was that I came to the
show with nothing, and I could leave with nothing, because that’s
what I am used to.
If you could play again, what would you do differently?

As soon as I got passed $100,000 I would take the deal.
I would go on the show with a strategy, instead of making it up
while I was going along.

How did your loss affect your life?

For me, it was very bad. I was not expecting my family and friends
to ridicule me about my loss. I had also over extended myself
financially, even before I had taped the show. The next day after
taping, it was back to me being broke as usual, yet I was on
national TV, looking like a jackass.
Do you think the game was fair?

No. What you see when you are taping is that its not a show but a
business with a lot of manipulations going on. For example, as I
watched the other contestants before me, I noticed a pattern. The
super attractive briefcase models that stood out above the rest,
always had lower money denominations in their briefcase, and they
were constantly changing the way you were picking, and the
banker’s response to enhance the entertainment value of the show.
Therefore I felt the contestants were at a disadvantage.
How did you get on the show?

I went to an open call and stood in line for 4 hours.
Would you be on another game show?

I don’t know. This experience has humbled me.
What advice would you give to someone, so they don’t make

the same mistakes you did?
Learn the inside outs of the game, before tape day. Prepare.

Describe the audition process?

It’s grueling. You are out in the hot sun all day, just waiting
around. Then you are ushered in, to a very large soundstage where
you have to fill out a very lengthy application and have your
Polaroid’s taken. It seems like it took forever. Then one after
another you are paraded in front of a camera where you have less
than a minute to make an impression.
Did the show give you any consolation gift?

No. Either you win or you walk away with nothing.

5 things to wear to your audition

For Guys:
1. If you have a hot body, SHOW IT OFF! Tight fitting clothes
are better than loose fitting.
2. For all body types: Your outfit should be BRIGHT!
3. Dress SHARP. – Button Down and tucked in.
4. Memorable accessories – Belt Buckle, Necklace, Hat
5. Make sure to be Pressed Neat and Well Dressed.
For Gals:
1. Dress STYLISH, not SLUTTY
2. SKIRTS over mini’s – If you’ve got legs, SHOW THEM
OFF. If not cover them.
3. If you’ve got IT, FLAUNT IT.
4. Be practical, dress smart. (5 inch heels don’t cut it)
5. Stand out with your wardrobe – think in the colors of a
FLOWER. If you dress like a FLOWER in the garden,
everyone will want to pick you.

1. Prepare with positive mental attitude and self confidence

2. Rest, Eat Well, exercise before the big day
3. Know the game you are trying to audition for, and master it.
4. Do not be psyched out by your competitors.

1. Turn your hobbies into your occupation.

This is not like everyday. Learn to be special.

they react in shock and awe, you are on the right track. This is the
