Immersion Bamfield Study Reflection

Oct 2013 Choose one of the MANY different aspects of intertidal research you have been introduced to: Plankton, Conservation, Mammals, Seaweed, Climate Change, Oceanography, Adaptations, Beaches, Invertebrates, Rainforest, and Life on Docks and Pilings. You have listened to lectures, watched movies and most importantly, had hands-on labs. Complete all five parts below, keeping in mind they must relate to your interest choice above.

Part one [English]


Write a one page summary (300 words) of your area of interest. It must include an overview of the topic, a brief description of what you did, some things you learned and why it is interesting to you.

Part two [Math]

Describe one of the situations in which you collected data. Analyze your data. Include a graph. Explain how you would modify your second attempt (or extend your original lab) to aid in more accurate and complete data collection.

Part three [Social Studies]


Screen capture a map of the area (sound) we were in. Mark on the map (with a legend) where our activities occurred. Include as much vocabulary as Mr. Lee will scrutinize. Also incude a scale.

Part four [Science]


Create a new research question you want answered. Rewrite in the form of a hypothesis. Suggest an experiment you COULD do to find the answer. Be sure to specify the independent and dependent variables.

Part five [Careers]

Choose a career in the area of your interest. Research what they do on a day-to-day basis. Find out what schooling they need. How much are they paid? Due date : 1 week (Oct 12, 2013, midnight) Hints: This is not meant to be a 25hour crushing assignment. It is meant as a 1-2 hour reflection and solidification of some of the knowledge you gained and the experiences you had. Include photos of your journal and experiences. Submit this as one single blog post. Each of your core teachers will view your blogpost and evaluate. Mr. Spence will coordinate after the due date. Lets keep marking easy. 100% with 20% to each area.
