An example of a Best system would be of a Terminal air traffic control system.

it i s made up of a large number of subsystems requiring the combination of several d ifferent disciplines. In order to function properly, these subsystems must work together accurately, efficiently and with proper synchronization. Hence it is a good example of a best system or an engineered complex system. It takes in aircr aft beacon responses as input and performs various operations like identificatio n and route tracing on it. Eventually the system communicates the air track info rmation as its output. The role of a system engineer is rather significant. 1. It must co-ordinate and synchronise all operations efficiently. Any mism anagement can lead to dire results like a crash. 2. The system is time crucial as it not only affects the safety but also if the aircraft does not get a free strip to land, it can result in additional cos t because of burning of jet fuel. 3. The system engineers also have to ensure that the system is reliable and communication and tracking systems do not break down in adverse climatic condit ions. The key system engineering principles that are applied to this system are 1. It focuses on the system as a whole and emphasizes its total operation. The whole system fails if any subsystem of the system is affected. 2. System engineers guide and coordinate the design of each individual elem ent as necessary to assure that the interactions and interfaces between system e lements are compatible and mutually supporting.
