Alisha Reeve MUSE 356 - Choral Methods Citation 3: Education Research: Practical Implications for the Rehearsal Patrick

K. Freer December 1992 Discussion This article has a lot of information on various types of choral rehearsals and how much of the time is spent. It discusses ways that this impacts students and ways that are more effective. He also states that the way a choral rehearsal is run largely rests on the person planning it. A lot of preparation and planning goes into making an effective rehearsal and the styles of rehearsal is often dependent on teaching preferences and personality traits. It should also depend on the students and how they best learn and what the goals of each class are. Many things go into an effective choral rehearsal; some of these include sequential units, conductor magnitude, approval or disapproval comments, and verbalizations. It is my belief that planning is the key to a good rehearsal. Even if you may not be feeling well, or are just having a bad day, and good plan can save the class. By planning the steps necessary you are able to make sure students are receiving all the information they need to know. It is also important for a teacher to be easily understood and get their points across concisely otherwise students begin to tune out and get bored. I know that in the beginning I will need to plan every part of my teaching in order to have effective rehearsals. As time passes I will become more adept at this.
