Final Assignment 9 HW 420

Complete each of the five sections below and post the project in your blog, also submit it as a single Word document in your drop box. I. Introduction: Why is it important for health and wellness professionals to develop psychologically, spiritually and physically? What areas do you need to develop to achieve the goals you have for yourself? It is important for health and wellness professionals to develop psychologically., spiritually and mentally. A health care professional has a responsibility not only to the patient, but also for themselves. A professional needs to have a broader mind and be able to attempt to treat a person as a whole. The counselor or professional needs to be on the cutting edge of new techniques and emerging therapies. This person, also has to practice what they preach, meaning must understand how to treat themselves first and then be able to treat a patient from the inside out. In order for the treatment be successful, the professional should treat the believe in treating

the patient in body, mind and spirit. If the practitioner does not have this fundamental believe it would be hard to treat these areas separately, as all these connected according to Dacher The mind is the body and the body is the mind (Dacher, 2006 p.18). The health and wellness professional needs to able to differentiate signs and symptoms of body and mind health in order for any treatment to be efficient. As I look deep into the areas that I need to develop, I must say that I am constantly evolving in all areas mentally, physically and spiritually. The moment that I stop evolving and changing on these areas, I have then departed from earth. In order to bring excellent in your life you have to continually evolve in all areas.

Final Assignment 9 HW 420 II. Assessment:

How have you assessed your health in each domain? How do you score your wellness spiritually, physically, and psychologically? Each person is born with unique talents , characteristics and abilities. We have our own unique disposition and life circumstances. We chose to either take care of our bodies or neglect them. However, if we recognize that changes need to be made, we must be able to adapt to an specific practice to achieve our ultimate goals (Dacher, 2006). In all three areas my scores are between a 5 to 8. My life is a work in progress. I realized that I need to eat better and exercise. I give myself a 5. In spiritually, I pray, I meditate, but I realized that also, I need to pray more, read the bible more, practice kindness and forgiveness. According to the bible according to Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, these are all amazing qualities that I we must practice daily. I rate myself a 6.5. Stress is around us daily. I have made some significant improvements on this area. Life is hard, but is what you do with a circumstance, in which you can fight or flight. I had the dramatic loss of losing my mother, father, grandparents. All of them passed within 24 months of each other. In addition, my first child is differently-abled. What does not kill you; makes you stronger. I could have opted to be angry at God for taking away my family members. Instead, I know that death is a part of life and I would always love and cherish the memory of my parents and the teachings of my grandparents. The joy and love of my son, he is my inspiration. Psychologically, I am stronger and a better person, regardless of the challenges that life has bring. Challenges are opportunities to grow. I rate myself an 8.

III.

Goal development:

List at least one goal you have for yourself in each area, Physical, Psychological (mental health) and Spiritual. My physical goal is to lose weight. I would like to build endurance and cardiovascular training. After pregnancy, it has been hard to get in shape. Definetely, this is an area that I would like to make improvements on. Over the next four months, I would like to be able to lose approximately 25 to 30 pounds. Psychological-Over the next few months, I would like to incorporate some of the bodymind techniques to expand my integral health. Some other areas, that I want to nourish are creativity, courage and discipline. All of these characteristics are within me, but I would like to develop fully. Over the next six months, I would like to be able to be more assertive in my decisions and be more discipline. Spiritual- This area, I would like to grow on a daily basis. The integral path is

intentional (Dacher, 2006). Individually, we must make decisions, in which we can develop from body, to mind to spirit to have a better understanding of self and life (Dacher, 2006 p.133). My goal is to practice more meditation to help me visualize where I need to be. Pray to God for guidance and take better care of myself spiritually. The principle of forgiveness primarily is to create peace of mind ( Schlitz, Amorok, & Micozzi, 2005). Forgiveness can help heal minds, hearts and can allow for a person to have spiritual healing.

Final Assignment 9 HW 420 IV. Practices for personal health:

What strategies can you implement to foster growth in each of the following domains; Physical, Psychological, and Spiritual. Provide at least two examples of exercises or practices in each domain. Explain how you will implement each example. Physical: To quick off my four month weight loss, I started walking three times a week for 30 minutes. I have also replaced the bad carbs with good carbs and started eating more vegetables daily. Psychological: I am so glad that this is my last week for school work. Now that I am done with my classes and degree, I can kick back and concentrate more in taking care of my husband, child and myself. I plan to have a more positive outlook towards life. Meditation is a great way to help me relax at the end of the day. I plan to incorporate some of the mental fitness exercises such as loving kindness to help me relax on a daily basis. Spiritual: I plan to read more of the bible and go back to my daily affirmations of faith. In rough days, this got me through. There is no reason, why I should have put them aside. Bible based affirmations are a great way to build my spiritual life and daily walk with God.

V.

Commitment: How will you assess your progress or lack of progress in the next six months? What strategies can you use to assist in maintaining your long-term practices for health and wellness?

One of the best ways for me to keep track of my improvement is that put my goals in paper. I have a white board with a calendar in which I keep my progress daily. I can look at the

end of each week and see the areas in which I have improved or lack. Another way is to keep a journal, in which I can write all my thoughts. The subtle mind technique was another great exercise to keep my mental progress and visualize where I want to go. This class has been an amazing experience and a great way to examine my life from the inside out.
