1. Determined no contraindications to procedure. 2. Applied clean gloves; inspected hair and scalp. 3. Protected bed linen with waterproof pad; properly positioned patient supine with shampoo trough under head and washbasin at end of trough. 4. Placed rolled towel under patients neck; draped patients shoulders with towel. 5. Brushed and combed patients hair. 6. Checked water temperature. 7. Provided patient with towel to cover eyes during shampooing. 8. Rinsed hair thoroughly before shampooing. 9. Lathered hair thoroughly; worked from hairline toward back of neck to sides of head; used fingertips to massage scalp. 10. Rinsed hair thoroughly. 11. Applied conditioner or cream rinse as patient desired. 12. Used bath towel to wrap patients head and dried moisture from around eyes, face, and neck. 13. Dried hair and scalp thoroughly. 14. Combed hair to remove tangles and completed drying. 15. Applied oil or conditioner if desired. 16. Provided specific care for patient with coarse, curly hair. 17. Brushed and styled hair with patient in comfortable position. 18. Returned equipment to its proper place, disposed of soiled linen, and performed hand hygiene.
