AUGUST NEWSLETTER

ife is like a box of chocolates, wow that's deep, add that to a box full of other life quotes and that's been filling my head this month! As my Yo Bro (older brother) turned 40 this month I gave him a box full of life quotes attached to an item of significance. So tequila, lemon and a tub of salt with the when life hands you lemons quote etc. and so forth. I even made up a few Antonia originals....like some different flavoured lollipops with "when life sucks, pick your flavour". This month I was out and about doing mainly Varoma demonstrations, which I love because it means I am back with an owner seeing how they are going. First stop was Mrs Physio. As a mum with an under one, of course she is enjoying the baby food side of Thermomix. Geez I wish I had mine for my babies. This was a great evening demo as all the ladies enjoyed the food being sampled. Nothing makes me happier than seeing empty plates! Next stop was Mrs Your Place. This was awesome because we did this one on her outdoor entertaining area with a large group from the apartments complex she lives in. Great to see some familiar faces there. In fact one guest who is a Thermomix owner asked about a substitute for almond meal in recipes as her son has a sever allergy. My research has found that using plain flour with some added fat (like butter, oil or coconut butter); otherwise using pepitas (milled to the same texture) is an exact exchange. In fact it appears some people prefer the taste of pepitas in their macarons! This lively bunch of ladies also discussed the Shades of Grey book series and of course that got my attention! Heading over to Mrs Etiquette (her manners are impeccable), I see that her daughter has got her fast tracked in using her Thermomix! A guest joked that maybe we could just do a demo at the golf club! No jokes about it, what a fantastic idea! We sure could, simply charge a $10 entry fee and donate that money to the club or a chosen charity! I welcome the opportunity for fundraising! Mr Etiquette sat in to pick up some tips for starting to use the Thermomix himself! Can I now introduce a new owner, Mrs Convivial (it is not an everyday adjective so go on, look it up!)? Now I have met some of the coolest people being a consultant on the Gold Coast, but this demo!my last for the month, knocked even my socks off! Mrs Convivial is new to the Gold Coast just like me, the biggest difference is the wonderful network of friends she has! Five ladies attended this demo and we discussed all manner of things. There was laughter and tears at this demonstration and I was reminded how truly magnificent it is to have an afternoon chattering with people that are as fun as they are analytical! Mrs Convivial thinks that she may be able to have another 2 demos with different friends!

Asian Themed Recipes

With the Asian cooking class in August, I have some recipes that you can add to what we will be cooking from A Taste of Asia Cook book.

BABI TEMPRA
2 Tbsp. peanut oil 6 Eschalots, peeled 3 Garlic cloves

pork with lime and soy.

2 Fresh long red chilies, halved Juice 2 limes (approx. 100g) 60g Palm sugar 50g Dark soy sauce 900g-1kg pork fillet, cubed Salt to taste Place oil into TM bowl and heat 3mins, Varoma Temp, speed 1. Add eschalots and garlic and chop for 3 sec, speed 5. Saut for 5mins, Varoma temp, speed 2. Add chilies and chop 3 sec, speed 5. Saut for further 5 mins, Varoma temp, speed 2. Add remaining ingredients and cook for 45 minutes at 90 degrees on reverse, speed soft spoon with the MC off. Serve with steamed rice.

PUMPKIN MANTO STEAMED PUMPKIN BUN

300g steamed and cooled pumpkin 500g Hong Kong flour (or plain flour) 80g sugar 2 tsp. dried yeast 1 tsp. baking powder ! tsp. salt 30g oil 1 ltr boiling water (used for steaming buns) Place steamed pumpkin into Tm bowl and blend for 20 sec, speed 5. Add remaining ingredients (excluding water) and mix for 30 sec, speed3.5. With dial set to closed lid position, knead for 2 mins, interval speed. Wrap dough in Thermomat and leave to rise for about 40 minutes or until doubled in size. Flatten dough and divide into 30 g balls. Place dough balls onto small pieces of baking paper in Varoma dish and let them rise for a further 30 minutes. Add boiling water to TM bowl and set Varoma into position. Steam buns for 10 minutes, Varoma temp, speed 4. I used to buy these from the Asian supermarket frozen ready to steam, if you would like to freeze some for use later on, place in airtight bag after the second rise. 2

Annual pilgrimage to Melbourne

Man of the house and I head to Melbourne every year to enjoy many restaurants and fresh food markets. This year we noticed something astonishing. A buck from the trend in small food and big plates when it comes to dessert! It is big food on big plates! We couldnt believe that we were unable to finish our dessert on a few occasionswhich is just so.well, worlds cant explain how rare that is! Our family celebrated a milestone birthday this month as well, so we gathered at Aria in Brisbane for dinner. The three youngest (6, 11 and 12 year olds) on the table were so excited to be at Matt Morans restaurant and a side effect of Masterchef, saw each dish being scrutinizedby the very same three! God love em!

HEY SOUL SISTER

Mrs Nutritionist also popped back to Australia for a four day visit, as you do! So I was thrilled to spend some quality time with her for a day. She is loving how wonderful her grocery shopping is on her purse. I did want to poke her in the face when she went on and on and on how cheap buckets (not punnets) of organic berries are in Seattle! Oh and how they have a drive thru Starbucks!! I have a love affair with Starbucks. Each Christmas time we go in a few times to taste the seasonal flavours they bring out. I did however put my fork down when Mrs Nutritionist demonstrated why she is my adopted sister. I was presented with a Gold card for Starbucks to take with me when we go to the USA in December. You must understand you cannot simply buy this card outright; you have to earn it, going through all the colours until you reach the summit of Gold! Coincidentally Mrs Nutritionist and I have had 2 weeks off from marathon training, the holiday is over! Back to it Girlfriend!
