ABSTRACT PREVENTING THE OCCURRENCE OF PLANTAR FLEXION ON THE PATIENTS WITH NEUROLOGIC DISORDER AT THE ICU WARD OF RSUD

SAIFUL ANWAR FOR 100% IN 6 MONTHS Disuse syndrome, a group of signs and symptoms generated by the absence of muscle and physical activities, always occurs to the patients suffering from consciousness decreases and neurologic disorders. One of the syndrome complications is plantar flexi. Patients with neurologic disorders who are not able to do leg muscle activities usually have plantar flexi. The problem list at the ICU Ward of RSUD Saiful Anwar reveals that plantar plexi is the highest incident in December 2011. Based on the correlation test and the scatter plot toward the possible dominant causes, three are identified as those of plantar flexion. The three dominant causes, whose correlation coefficient is positive (r > 0,714), are: (1) the absence of special equipment for legs fixation; (2) inappropriate positioning of the patients legs with neurologic disorder; and (3) the nurses lack of knowledge on the importance of anatomical leg position. The improvements implemented to reduce the causes are: (1) developing anti-plantar flexi bandage and footboard; (2) setting the SOP for applying the anti-plantar flexi bandage and footboard; (3) performing some brainstorming classes to increase the nurses knowledge on the importance of anatomical leg position. The result analysis shows that the imprevements are effective to prevent the occurrence of plantar flexi suffered by the patients with neurologic disorders at the ICU Ward of RSUD Saiful Anwar for 100%. Key words: Plantar Flexion, Anti-Plantar Flexion Bandage and Footboard
