Burma VJ

“Who did they shoot?… A guy with a camera.”

While those in the West might bemoan the falling standards of news
media, the Burmese live in a world where journalism of any kind is
illegal. Just being found with a camera can have you killed in the
streets.

In extraordinary acts of bravery, the Democratic Voice of Burma risk

their lives to show the world what is really happening in repressive
state. This group of anonymous journalists, armed with handy cams,
documented the 2007 uprising against the junta. Burma VJ is the
result, capturing the excitement of daily marches led by Buddhist
monks – and the brutality of the inevitable reprisals.

Directed by Danish filmmaker Anders Ostergaard (Tintin and I, MIFF

04), Burma VJ has received multiple awards, including top prize at the
International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam.
