Basic Paragraph Outline

Topic sentence: What is the main


idea of this paragraph? What subject and opinion will it explore? Concrete Detail: A fact (quote). Select as an example to support the main topic. Explain your analysis. Commentary: In your opinion, continue to explain your analysis (your opinion) based on the evidence from the selection or other souces of information. Commentary: Any further evidence to support your claim. Concrete Detail A second fact (quote) from the selection to suport your position/opinion (main topic) of this paragraph. Commentary: Any further evidence to support your claim. Commentary: Any further explanation to support your point/position Concluding Sentence: Summarize, with a final opinion, the main point of the paragraph
Note: The paragraph above is an outline you could use to formulate an essay converting the sentences into paragraphs.

Paragraph 1 Introduce topic including all the elements you will be describing in the body paragraphs (last
sentence would have the thesis. The thesis is your topic+your position what you will be proving, explaining, persuading, basically describing throughout your paper.

Paragraph 2 Body paragraph take one element of your topic where you will give specific examples and details. Paragraph 3 Body paragraph take another element of your topic where you will give specific examples /details. Paragraph 4 concluding paragraph restate what you already said in different/other words. Make sure you have thoroughly supported your thesis that is the position or main points of your essay. Last sentence should leave the reader with something to think about. Something to take with them so that what you wrote was meaningful and memorable.
