The Buffalo Party

Our political ideology is green conservatism Political Platform/ 5 Issues: Fracking, Abortion, Agriculture, Wind Energy, Obamacare Mission: To turn our selected districts of Wyoming into a cost effective energy area, while taking in the concerns of the environment. To benefit the farming industry, and establish an important role of government concerning abortion, all while resisting the plague of Obamacare. Running: Powell, Lovell, Cody, Wyoming Candidate: William Brayden Link to video- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-Hr_wpEtWQ Kristen Dante Fracking Background Information: Fracking is the action of being able to drill into the ground and bring up natural gas. By doing this, it isnt proven that it does not cause pollution. Due to all of the farmland in WY, the people are against fracking and believe it shouldnt be done due to trying to save the healthiness of water there. EPA environmentalists and WY come to a conclusion that it is good to stop fracking for now since there are so many people in WY who get their water from the ground. With this change, hopefully more people will continue to have safe drinking water. Vote for our party in order to save the cleanliness of your water, and the pollution in your air. (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/21/pavillion-wyomingfracking-study-epa_n_3478685.html) Party Stance: (Against Fracking) As our fears for the cleanliness of your drinking water grows, we believe it to be the best benefit for the people to slowly decrease the production of natural gas due to the environmental problems of fracking. That is why we will make it a top priority to

decrease the production of natural gas to give the people the clean drinking water you deserve. Questions: Fracking is necessary because it tampers with people's groundwater affecting their property. This issue relates to the protection of property because fracking pollutes the groundwater where so many people drink from out of their backyard, leading to their property being tampered with. People of different regions feel differently about this issue, particularly, those who live more closely to fracking sites. Brooke Propson Abortion: Abortion background information: As one can see by the chart below the abortion rates in Wyoming are extremely low. The Alan Guttmacher Institute (AGI) reports that out of all of the states in the United States, Wyoming is ranked last when it comes to number of abortions per year. In 2008, a mere 1% of pregnancies in Wyoming resulted in abortion. With that being said, policy or none, few abortions happen anyways. The amount of yearly abortions averages about 70-90 abortions/year. Party stance: We believe in life, making the Buffalo Party a pro-life party. We cannot stress our very strong beliefs on abortion enough. We, like you, agree that abortion ends lives before they can ever truly begin. Although Wyoming does not have a large amount of yearly abortions, we can all agree that even just one abortion is one too many. The Buffalo Party will try to reduce the amount of abortion practices in Wyoming and we will stress that abortion is not the answer. As you can see by the graph, the number of yearly abortions in Wyoming has gone down significantly throughout the years, but we refuse to let it stop there. The Buffalo Party is on your side in the fight against abortion. (http://www.abort73.com/abortion_facts/states/wyoming/ Questions: 1. The issue of abortion relates to the core belief of life. We are all entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness right? With abortion in the picture, we are not. By being able to abort a child, a human is given the chance to end anothers life without the consent of the life whos being ended and no punishment for the one ending it.

2. There is not agreement on the political culture of abortion. The country is sharply divided when it comes to this issue. Most Americans can agree that choice is good and taking away the option is like taking away certain rights of women however, most also believe it is the t equivalent to murdering a child. This is where the lines get blurred. How it is carried out in society is actually quite similar, depending on things, such as location, people have very different viewpoints. 3. Views on abortions differ greatly from things like region. Southern, central states typically are the ones to say that all abortion should be banned. They say it is wrong and it should not even be an option. Northern states typically believe, not that abortion is okay, but that women should have the say. In turn this would mean that they would like to allow for legal abortions. Age also has a large say. Since younger people are more liberal and older people are more conservative, it makes sense that younger people typically support abortion and older people do not.

Drew Shea Agriculture and Wind Power: Agriculture background information: Farming makes up a significant chunk of Wyomings industry as it makes most of its revenue off of cattle and sheep. Wyoming has over 11,000 farms and 91% of the state is considered to be rural land. (Although no farming demographic can be found on the internet for the state of wyoming, it can be inferred that there is a significant amount of the population that supports farming considering farming is one of the top industries in Wyoming.) http://www.enchantedlearning.com/usa/states/wyoming/ http://www.agclassroom.org/kids/stats/wyoming.pdf Party Stance: Agriculture is one of the biggest industries concerning Wyoming. Many people strongly support the farming industry. As a new farm bill has not been renewed lately, the buffalo party shall make the creation of a new farm bill at the top of its priorities. The passage of a new beneficial farm bill will help subsidize farming. With this aid, and other laws that our party will put in place, such as a lower property tax on farmers; this will allow for the flow of cash to move about the people which will allow our farmers to make more money. Questions: This issue relates to the Founding Fathers ideal of equality as the farmers of wyoming deserve to have an equal chance to succeed as other professions. They need the support of a renewed farm bill for the equality they deserve. There are agreements on the political culture that this issue stands on but people do see a variety of different ways to handle the situation. Members of the farming industry will feel different on this issue compared to the people of the upper class in the state of wyoming. The people of the farming industry will obvious support this more heavily than the upper class of wyoming.

Wind Power Background information: Wyoming has the highest potential to be the leading wind power source in America. And due to this large potential many state officials recognize that Wyoming citizens should appropriately benefit from our energy resources [wind power] (Whalen, 1). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_power_in_Wyoming http://wyofile.com/jim_whalen/wyoming-an-opec-of-windpower-planning-puts-state-in-good-position/ Party Stance: (For the creation of Wind Farms) We recognize that Wyoming is one of the Windiest states around. We see this as a great opportunity to decrease our reliance on fossil fuels and increase our production of wind farms around the areas of Powell, Lovell, and Cody. Creating these wind farms can only benefit Wyoming. We propose to you a public works project to replace 20% of our reliance on fossil fuels with clean wind energy by 2019. This will create multiple new jobs for those who are unemployed which leads to a decrease in our poverty rate. This plan will also benefit all of our citizens by decreasing the cost of electricity as it is a clean free energy. This will the people with more money. Questions: This issue can be tied to the Founding Fathers ideal of civic duty as it is the duty of the people to adapt to the changing times which needed wind power is a necessary change. There are agreements on the political culture that this issue stands on but people and different ideologies see many different ways of carry out the growing problem of using a renewable energy source. This issue of energy really affects all of Wyoming but more particularly the areas closer to the cities like Powell, Lovell and Cody as they will most likely be powered by the wind energy. John Barry Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) background information: The Affordable Care Act is a bill passed to try to get as many citizens as possible to get healthcare and also prevent the monopoly in the healthcare market and it attempts to drive the prices downing by making competitors. Obamacare tries to ensure that everyone has health care and this means that medicaid is expanded to cover people at a younger age than before and if their salary is low enough. Wyomings population is nearly 90% white, largely middle aged, middle class, and many have showed conservative views. By looking at the low approval rates of whites, of middle aged citizens, of middle class, and conservatives, it is clear that the citizens of Wyoming do not approve of the Affordable Care Act.

Party Stance: While the healthcare situation in the United States does need to be addressed, the Affordable Care Act is not the answer. It expands the government's power into every aspect of American citizens health care. It also creates too much debt for other citizens that would

have to support those in need of medical care when they themselves cannot pay it. The Buffalo Party feels that Affordable Care Act be repealed or amended to allow citizens to have the freedom they deserve and keep the governments power in check and find a new alternative that allows for the citizens and the government to work together to create a new policy. http://obamacarefacts.com/obamacare-pros-andcons.php http://trib.com/news/state-and-regional/wyoming-smedicaid-expansion-bill-appears-headed-for-fulldebate/article_7ab3f0ba-8722-5f82-ad3febea066845d3.html Questions: The Founding Fathers view of civic duty is also that the citizens have responsibility to insure that the governments power was in check. This is also how we are running this party with the idea of having the citizens keep the governments power in check. Regarding political culture, it is clear that many citizens believe that healthcare is an important issue however based on the different views on the Affordable Care Act it is clear that many people have disagreed on how it should be established. The Region including Wyoming is dominated by rural white communities which gives them similar views, however if Wyoming or towns within were more evenly divided with another major ethnicity the state would have divided views.

This political cartoon has a person saying it sure is hard to get along with people when they dont even believe you have a right to exist, and an angel replying with isnt that the truth. This cartoon is pro-

life because it shows that people shouldnt abort babies due to the fact that they are taking away somebodys life.

This political cartoon is showing someone who looks at the glass as half clean. It shows how fracking will affect the quality of the water in everyones house. It also shows that the large gas corporations want the citizens of Wyoming to accept fracking and to agree with the businesses that they should be allowed to continue fracking and not have the regulations changed regardless of the effects to the environment and our drinking water.
