Lindsey Takahashi 3 September 2013 Aural Skills II/Sobke Assignment 1 Aural skills involves the demonstration of understanding what

we hear when we listen to music. The foundation of aural skills includes sight singing, dictation, and error detection. Through this study, I hope to develop a better aptitude for composition and become a more accomplished pianist. Instead of playing songs by ear, I tend to search for sheet music and practice reading. While I have acquired proficient sight reading skills, I lack dictation skills. By being in this class, I aspire to use the activities in this class to help me build the bridge between musical sound and musical notation. In order to reach my goal of becoming a better pianist, flautist and violinist, I am taking every opportunity I can to practice music. In addition to the music theory and aural skills classes, I am also a part of the school orchestra and concert band, and new group, Musica Nova Antiqua. I am also practicing singing on my own in order to learn solfeggio and train my ear better.
