Explain how a capacitor stores charge (draw figures to help you to explain). Define capacitance and its unit. Give five types of capacitors. Give two applications of capacitors in our daily life. A 2.2 F capacitor has 20V across its plates. How much does it store? Determine the voltage across a 200 pF capacitor that is storing 2 C? Determine the total capacitance in Figure 1

10. A capacitor A is connected in series with two capacitors B and C connected in parallel. If the capacitance of A, B and C are 4 F, 5 F and 6 F respectively, calculate the equivalent capacitance of the combination. If a p.d of 24 V is maintained across the whole circuit, calculate the charge on the 5 F capacitor. 11 Three capacitors, C1, C2 and C3 in Figure 4 are connected in series across a 200 V d.c supply. The p.d.s across the capacitors is 40V, 70V and 90V respectively. If the capacitance of C1 is 8 F, what are the capacit ance of C2 and C3?

Figure 4 12 A 10 F capacitor is connected in series with two capacitors, 4 F and 2 F respectively, which are connected in parallel. a. Determine the capacitance of the combination. b. If a p.d of 24V is maintained across the combination, determine the charge on the 4 F capacitor.
