How does the disappearance of honey bees affect the human population and environment?

Unit Learning Goals

Students will analyze and understand why the honeybee population is declining. Students will recognize that a change had to occur somewhere down the line in order for the population decline to make sense Through research, students will be able to predict what will happen if the honeybee population goes extinct. Students will utilize divergent thinking when creating different solutions to help reduce the decline in honeybee population. Students will demonstrate understanding by creating a project to convince others to help local bee keepers in their quest to save the bees

OW! The kids have done an extraordinary job with this unit. They have exceeded my expectations! I am so proud of all of their hard work and cannot wait to see where else their determination and motivation will lead them this year.

After writing a persuasive business proposal to Mr. Evans, the students lmed a video using the iPad to explain how they wanted to involve the Prince of Peace Catholic School community. They scheduled a meeting with Mr. Evans and Mr. Sanders, and then proceeded to present to them their idea of passing out yers. The students then !oluntarily arrived at school early one morning !Thank you, parents!" to pass out the yers to families. They had a great time! Finally, to wrap up the units, the students completed a next steps poster for the POP community with movies, books, and websites to check out for more information on the bees.

hat all did they accomplish? The kids gained a better understanding of the anatomy of the honey bee, as well as the importance of honey bees to our society. They completed research over Colony Collapse Disorder and brainstormed ways that we can help save the bees!
