Education and Economic Development Act (EEDA) EEDA School Personnel Preparation
According to the SC law, colleges of education shall include the following in their training of teachers, guidance counselors, and administrators:

career guidance use of the cluster of study curriculum framework and individual graduation plans elements of the Career Guidance Model of the South Carolina Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program Model learning styles contextual teaching cooperative learning character education

Career Guidance
is a process by which students become aware of the world of work, explore career options, and prepare for postsecondary opportunities.

Career guidance process


School guidance counselors and career specialists shall:
Counsel students -9th and 10th grades define their career cluster goals, develop individual graduation plans, & declare an area of academic focus in a cluster. Provide activities and career awareness combine counseling on career options and experiential learning with academic planning to assist students in fulfilling their individual graduation plans. In elementary school Students will learn about
a variety of professions through career awareness activities.

In middle school Students will explore careers


to identify clusters of study relevant to their aspirations and abilities.

In high school Students will experience a variety


of professional opportunities through job shadowing, apprenticeships or internships and Develop an Individual Graduation Plan.

describe the clusters of study concept and the developmental process of the Individual Graduation Plan (IGP).

Individual Graduation Plan

5. 6. 7. 9th or 10th Grade align career goals and a student's course of study; an academic focus within that cluster; include core academic subjects for graduation include experience-based learning experiences (e.g.) internships, service learning, etc.; be flexible to allow change in the course of study; incorporate provisions of a student's IEP be approved by counselor & parents/guardians.
