Unit question
How does learning guitar and drums help me with Practical Music on a whole?

MYP Objectives
Objectives for general learning: A: Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of chords/drum beats and techniques studied, including specialized language, concepts and processes. B: Students will articulate a personal interpretation of in-class practiced pieces (or an excerpt there of) individually to the teacher for assessment. C: Students will consider feedback as they with-in class as it is given and give an informed description of the progress they have made and identify strategies to develop and improve their artistic procress for future playing in a 250 word reflection to incorporate and consolidate the above featured ideas. D: Students will demonstrate curiousity, self-motivation, initiative and a willingness to take informed risks by working with peers, playing alongside and to each other, teaching them to work together and to compare the success gained by practice to possible success in other subject areas. Students will practice both as homework and of their own accord/self-motivation/initiative

Objectives for students requiring differentiated learning support gifted and/or special needs. As above with the amount of written work reduced, as with length of practical assessment task. Gifted students to assist other students to consolidate their own understanding. Will be asked to learn new songs. Extended chords such as D+2, Dsus, G7, A+2.

Transfer: making connections between knowledge and understanding in Music theory, eg: tones and semi-tones across the fret board and Mathematics, eg: halves and wholes, counting up and down keys that relate to the strings of the guitar.

TEACHING STRATEGIES
Modelling. Firstly outlining the areas to be known on each instrument respectively, playing them and students to follow. Individual and class feedback to be given through out lessons.. Diagnostic questioning and observation intermittently to guage pace to be taken. Peer tutoring to concurrently take place by gifted students during individual feedback time.
