I believe Huntington has a lot of positive things going for it, but we could make it more safe and enjoyable for people of all ages. I did not grow up in the town of Huntington. I have lived in Huntington County my whole life. I have participated in many activities as well as going to many different parks and historical sites. Huntington County has seven active elementary schools. Andrews, Flint Springs, Lancaster, Lincoln, Northwest, Roanoke, and Salamonie. There are two middle schools, Riverview and Crestview. Finally there is one high school, Huntington North. Huntington also has a University, Huntington University. Huntington has many parks as well. There is Drover Park, Elmwood, Erie, Evergreen, General Slack, Hiers Park, Laurie, Riverside, Yeomen and Memorial Park. These are the main parks but there are also wonderful things in these parks like the Sunken Gardens and Shakespeare Gardens these are both a part of Memorial Park. Memorial Park is also home to the Memorial Hills disc golf course. There is also a Hayes skate park this is a part of Yeomen park. Huntington also has Bendix-Hiner Splash Park. All of these parks have something to offer for children, teenagers, adults, and parents. As Far as historical sites there is the Dan Quail museum, the Sheets museum, the Historical museum, and Forks of the Wabash. The Forks of the Wabash has added a new trail that you might not know about. It is called Lime City Trail.

In Huntington there is also a indoor roller skating center also known as West-Park skate center. There is even a 4-H ground. Throughout the year there are many activities you can be a part of. Every Wednesday from June 5th through October 30th 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm they have a downtown farmers market. Starting October the 10th at 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm there is a fun Halloween activity, it is called the Haunted Hotel 13th Floor this takes place every Thursday throughout the month of October. (For more upcoming events visit www.visithuntington.org ) As you can tell Huntington has a lot of positive things, but like in every city there are negative things that I would like to inform you about. Huntington has a population of 17,431. The reported crimes include murder which is at 0, robberies 3, assaults 6, theft 398, burglaries 67, and motor vehicle theft 17.(http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/in/huntington/crime). Throughout Huntington there is a lot of trash that usually comes from the fast food restaurants around town. Trash is very dangerous to the environment. Another concern is the lack of food variety and shopping places. There are also many businesses and houses that are run down and abandon. Also many the parks throughout the town are being vandalized which is very depressing not only for people visiting the parks but the parks department as well, they spend a lot of money every year making our parks cleaner and safer place.

I asked my friends two simple questions, What are some negative things about the town of Huntington? The responded and then I asked them, If you could change one thing about Huntington what would it be? Here are their responses: Some negative things about Huntington, well, for starters there is no mall, and not a lot of entertainment for teenagers. I would probably change the variety of food choices, I dont think a Logans Roadhouse would be a bad idea. I think that Huntington could really benefit from this. (Sieberns, Mary). I believe Huntington has a lot of bad people, there are a lot of drugs and drug use, and also a lot of arrests. I would probably change the roads and streets they are very confusing, old and bumpy. (Culver, Brandy). Huntington has a lot of bullying in the local schools, there is also a lot of vandalism around the town. I would probably change the amounts of trash around the town. (Padgett, Leah). Huntington has a lot of violence and bad people. I also think Huntington is really small. I would probably add more entertainment, Huntington is boring for teenagers that is probably do stupid things like drugs and vandalize stuff. (Fishbaugh, Tim). I think Huntington should get a mall, and I dont like how there is so much trash around the town.(Davis, Rhonda). Compared to other cities Huntington may seem a lot better, take Warsaw as an example the population there is 13,557. The reported crimes there include. This is why I believe that Huntington has a lot of positive things going for it, but together we can create Hope for our Community. We can make it more Safe and we can make it more enjoyable. Huntington might be an old town but for our generation, it is just the beginning.
